you added yarn on the right and wrong side. You are only limited by your imagination and your stash. Scarf shown: 9" width, length 44" Cowl shown: 6" width, length 20" Double loop cowl shown: 9"width, length 60" This scarf looks great with stripes in any random order, mixing colors and widths. I knit all the pieces, adding the yarn on the start of the right side row. But these would look just as good if K- Knit RS- Right side st(s)-stitch(es) WS- Wrong side For the Cowl and Double Cowl Styles Cast on 20(30, 40) stitches, using provisional cast on Row 1:(WS) Knit Row 2: (RS) Knit Repeat rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 20" (40",60") inches (or desired length) End after you have worked row 1, Leave an extra-long tail to graft the 2 ends together Go to the Kitchener Stitch instructions below
For the Classic Scarf Style
Cast on 20(30, 40) stitches, using a long tail cast on Row 1: (WS) Knit Row 2: (RS) Knit Repeat rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 44"( 60", 90") inches (or desired length) End after work row 1. Bind off knit wise.
Kitchener Stitch
Hold the 2 needles with the stitches parallel to each other. Set up Step 1: Thread the yarn though the 1"t stitch on the front needle, as if to purl, leave the stitch on the needle. Set up Step 2: Thread the yarn though the 1"t stitch on the back needle, as if to knit, leave the stitch on the needle. Step 1: Thread the yarn though the 1t stitch on the front needle as if to knit, remove stitch from the needle Step 2: Thread the yarn though the next stitch on the front needle as if to purl, leave the stitch on the needle Step 3: Thread the yarn though the 1"t stitch on the back needle as if to purl, remove stitch from the needle Step 4: Thread the yarn though the next stitch on the back needle as if to knit, leave the stitch on the needle Repeat sets 1-4 until you have only 2 stitches on the needles Step 5: Thread the yarn though the last stitch on front needle as if to knit, remove stitch from the needle Step 6: Thread the yarn though the last stitch on back needle as if to purl, remove stitch from the needle For a video tutorial: http://youtu.be/66R3jczZeRY
