Instructions
Shawl body
Cast on 9 sts. Row 1 (RS): k1, yo, k7, yo, k1 Row 2 (WS): k2, yo, p7, yo, k2 (Please note! To avoid unsightly holes along the selvedge, yarn overs from the previous row are to be worked through the back loop.) Row 3 (RS): k2 (selvedge sts),“3 from 1”" into the yo, k7, “3 from 1”" into the yarn over, k2 (= selvedge sts). (Please note! “3 from 1"' is worked as [ktbl, yo, ktbl].) Row 4 (WS): k2 (selvedge sts), yo, p to last 2 sts, yo, k2 (selvedge sts) Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have 259 sts (not counting selvedge) in a WS row. This WS row will look as follows: k2 (selvedge sts), yo, p259, yo, k2 (selvedge sts). One pattern repeat has 20 sts, making for 13 pattern repeats width-wise. (For symmetry, the last pattern repeat will have only 19 sts). A greater or smaller number of pattern repeats may be worked to achieve a larger or smaller shawl. Work the following RS row as shown in Chart 1.
Don't forget!
At the beginning of every RS row, after the 2 selv sts, work [ktbl, yo, ktbl] into the yarn over from the previous row. At the end of every RS row, after all pattern repeats acc. to chart, before the last 2 (=selv) sts: "3 from 1"' worked as [ktbl, yo, ktbl], then yo, k2 (selvedge sts). At the beginning of every WS row, after the 2 selv sts, make a yo. itil the edge starts. For increases within edge pattern, please refer to edge char
Lace pattern
Row 1, see also chart: k2 (selvedge sts), “3 from 1", work pattern repeat 12 times width-wise. In the 13" pattern repeat, stop before the last (p) st, i.e. after the ssk, work "3 from 1", k2 (selvedge sts). In WS rows, work all sts as they appear (k the k's and p the p's), unless otherwise indicated. For the short version, work shawl body, Charts 1, 2, 3 and 4, then Chart 7 = short version edge.k0 usnci For the full version, work shawl body, Charts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, then Chait 6?nfull version edgem ILihited.
Binding off
When binding off the edge sts, treat the first two sts and the last two sts (selvedge) as one st and work the picot already from this one st. Detailed instructions for binding off can be found on the page with the edge chart.
