Cute and Cozy Cap (for babies)

A fun stranded knitting project on a small enough scale to be your first colorwork project! This little cap, perfect for babies up to 3m, is knit in a cotton/acrylic blend (so machine wash/dry) that knits up quickly on #7 needles. The bit of colorwork adds some fun while the spiral decrease, ending in an i-cord loop, adds just a bit of whimsy. Yarn required is about 55 yards of MC, 5 yards of a CC1, and 2 yards of a CC2. The final cap measures: 12 -inches (unstretched) at edge and 6-inches from hem to loop, perfect for O-3m babies.
Material:
worsted weight bits of yarn (sample used Kramer's Tatamy Tweed, a cotton/acrylic blend) - you'll need 3 colors: MC = 55 yards, CC1 = 5 yards, CC2 = 2 yards ● US #7 (16-inch circs and dpns) tapestry needle to tuck in ends ?stitch marker for beg of rnd
Gauge:
16sts x 24rnds = 4” in stockinette, knitted in the round 12-inches (unstretched at rib) x 6-inches from hem to loop With MC and circs, CO 56 sts and join (being careful not to twist). Work klp1 ribbing for 9 rnds. On 10th rnd of ribbing, inc at every 5" st a total of 10 times, finish round. A total of 66 sts on needles. Work 1 rnd of knit with MC Begin colorwork chart, rep 11 times around cap > When done with chart, break CC1 and work the following with only MC: Ok 1 rnd on 66 sts k 1 rnd, dec 2 sts evenly (64 sts) O[k6, k2tog]; rep around (56 sts); k 1 rnd on 56 sts O[k5, k2tog]; rep around (48 sts); k 1 rnd on 48 sts O[k4, k2tog]; rep around (40 sts); k 1 rnd on 40 sts [k3, k2tog]; rep around (32 sts) [k2, k2tog]; rep around (24 sts) [k1, k2tog]; rep around (16 sts) [k2tog]; rep around (8 sts) [k2tog]; rep around (4 sts) [k2tog]; rep around (2 sts) Owork 5 rnds of i-cord on these 2 sts; brea Secure /Tuck in all endc and enioy! e
