Strata is a fun striped mitts pattern perfect for mini skeins or those left over bits of yarn that you just can't bring yourself to dispose of. Designed for Phydeaux mini skeinlettes (five 20- yd mini skeinlette packs), but beautiful in any hand dyed/painted fingering weight yarn.

Materials
100 yards total / 92 m fingering weight yarn (shown: Phydeaux Bambou, 80% Bluefaced Leicester wool, 20% bambo, 435 yds / 100 gr skein) (alternate suggestions: Phydeaux Caress fingering, Phydeaux Silky Caresse) 20 yds / 18 m each five colors in 20 yds each, shown here (starting from botton) in Shale, Passion, Charcoal, Saffron and Artichaut (perfect for one pack of Phydeaux mini skeinlettes) Size 3 US / 3.25 mm, 10 UK double point needles (or size needed to obtain gauge) One needle, one size larger (optional, for bind off)

1. Decrease or increase circumference by casting on fewer or additional stitches. 2. You can use as many colors as you like, just work the four row stripe pattern for each color used.

Rnd 1: Using A, knit to end end, pm (optional) Rnds 2-6: Using A, knit to marker, sm. Rnds 7-10: Using B, knit to marker, sm. Rnds 11-14: Using C, knit to marker, sm. Rnds 15-18: Using D, knit to marker, sm. Rnds 19-22: Using E, knit to marker, sm. Rep rnds 2-22 one additional time (two total reps).

Rnd 1: Using A, rm, 2 st to cn (or dpn), hold in front of work, k2 from LH needle, pm, k2 from cn, knit to to 2 sts before marker, end k1, m1, k1. Rnd 2 (WS): Using A, turn work, sllp, purl to last 2 sts, end p1, M1, p1. Rnd 3 (RS): Using A, turn work, sl1k, knit to end. Rnd 4: Using A, turn work, sl1p, purl to last st,p1 using B.
