Skj6l cowl
by Berglind Inga Guomundsdottir

I really like shawls and I love to have something handknitted around my neck to keep me from freezing in the wintertime. I wanted to make a warm and cozy cowl that you can cover your ears and hair with, in case it gets really cold and windy. This pattern was published in 2010 in the Icelandic book Fleiri Prjonaperlur. Skjol is a warm Icelandic word that can be translated as "shelter" and "protection". The pattern includes two versions of the Skjol cowl and both are a simple and a quick knits, perfect for beginners in lace knitting and chart reading. No worries, written instructions are includedtoo. Size One size, width: 27 cm / 10.6 inches, length: 47 cm / 18.5 inches. Needles 40 cm. / 16" circular, 3.5mm / US 4 Yarn 50 gr. / 1.76 oz. of Istex Einband or Navia Uno (the white Skjol). The green Skjol is shown in hand dyed Eigingirni yarn by Knitty Attitude which is my alter-ego in the world of yarn. Gauge 22 sts. = 10 cm. / 4 inches in stockinette stitch. Loosely cast on 128 stitches and join in the round, it's good to mark the beginning of a row with a stitch marker. Knit pattern using either the written instructions or the chart.
