Julie the Jellyfish Amigurumi:

For more pictures, see the end of the PDF. Meet Julie the Jellyfish! Julie is just your run-of-the-mill cnidarians. She loves long swims along the beach, dining on fine plankton from around the world, and late nights doing the tentacle dance to her favorite band, “Arboreal Seas.” More than anything, though, she's looking for a boyfriend to share all of these delights with. So if you are a smart, funny, caring jelly looking for love, you should consider getting in touch with her! Her favorite haunts are the Florida Keys and the warm seas around Indonesia. Fish need not apply. This pattern includes instructions to make a jellyfish amigurumi which has either small tentacles or lots of long tentacles.
Finished Size:
Body Length: 7 inches Body Width: 6 inches Height: 6 inches (for the version with short tentacles); 17 12 inches (for the version with long tentacles)
Materials:
Worsted-Weight Yarn (for body and ruffle): About 85 yards/50 grams. Worsted-Weight Yarn (for tentacles): About 50 yards/35 grams (for version with short tentacles); 120 yards/75 grams (for version with long tentacles). Crochet hook, size G (4 mm) Polyester fiberfill Yarn needle Abbreviations: US definitions. Ch - Chain Dc - Double crochet Sc - Single Crochet Slip st - Slip Stitch St - Stitch
Tips:
1. Use a marker to keep track of where each round of stitches ends. Make sure that you move the marker when you finish each round! 2. Unless otherwise specified, this amigurumi will be crocheted in rounds. When working in rounds, do not join with a slip stitch. Instead, each round starts in the first stitch of the previous round. 3. When you are crocheting this amigurumi, make sure you keep your tension even and do not work your stitches too tightly or too loosely. This is especially important when doing the ruffle and when making the tentacles. 4. The instructions for each round ends with a colon (:) followed by the number of stitches you should have if you' ve done the round correctly.
Body:
Round 1: Ch 2, 8 sc in second ch from hook. Place marker. Do not join: 8 so Stuff body with fiberfill. Alternatively, you can stuff the body while attaching the Base (described below) - whichever is easier for you. Base: (this is the piece that “plugs the hole” left in the body) For the purposes of counting the number of dc in each round, the initial ch is counted as a dc. Round 1: Ch 4, 12 dc in fourth ch from hook. Join with a slip st to the first dc of the round. Place marker (if you think you'll need one): 13 dc Round 2: Ch 3, (2 dc in next dc) around. Join with a slip st to the first dc of the round: 25 dc Round 3: Ch 3, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) around. Join with a slip st to the first dc of the round:37dc
Ruffle:
The ruffle (the purple wavy bit around the base of the jellyfish body) is made by crocheting the Base to the Body. Place the base in the “"hole” on the lower part of the body, and connect the two pieces by doing one sc for each loop on the Base. Doing this will give you 36 sc around. Once you have gone all the way around, place marker, then:

These two images show how the way the base and body will look after you've finished the sc around to attach them to each other. On the left, the first (2 sc in next sc) of Round 2 (below) has been done, and what the next stitches look like; on the right, you can see the crochet hook placed through only the “upper" loop; the “lower" loops, which you'll use when making the Little Tentacles (below) are visible just beneath the hook. Round 1: Only crochet through the upper loop to create this Round. (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around: 54 st Round 2: (2 sc in next sc) around: 108 st Round 3: (2 sc in next sc) around: 216 st Slip st in next sc, tighten yarn, and finish off
Little Tentacles:

This image shows a close up on how the base and small tentacles look after you've madethem. This image shows which loop you use to start making theLittleTentacles. To the left of the hook, you can see the ruffle; to the right, the base; and the hook has been inserted in the first lower loop which was left "free" when you made the Ruffle, above. The right-hand pictureprovided above to help with making the Ruffle also shows these loops. To make the little tentacles, you'll be using the lower loops that were left open when crocheting Round 1 of the Ruffle. Start at the 1\*" lower loop: it is located just below where you finished the Ruffle. With the rainbow yarn (or whatever second color you'd like to use), form a loop around this 1st loop. You will then repeat the following pattern every four \*“loops" until you are back to where you started. (Note that when you start the very first tentacle, do NOT start with a Sc.) In Loop 1: Sc, Ch 13. Starting in the second ch from hook, (2 sc in next ch) back to the first ch: 24 sC In Loop 2: Sc In Loop 3: Sc, Ch 13. Starting in the second ch from hook, (3 sc in next ch) back to the first ch: 36sc In Loop 4: Sc This pattern will repeat 9 times. When you have completed the entire circle, slip st in next loop, tighten yarn and finish off.
If you'd like a jellyfish with only the little tentacles, you're now done!

If you'd like a jellyfish that also has lots of long tentacles, continue with the following instructions:
Long Tentacles:
Each tentacle is made individually. In all cases, draw the loose ends of yarn through a length of the tentacle to hide them. Tentacle 1: Ch 100. Tighten the last ch and finish. Tentacle 2: Ch 131. Starting in second ch from hook, 3 sc in each ch; repeat for length of tentacle. Tentacle 3: Ch 111. Starting in second ch from hook, (2 sc in next ch, sc in next ch); repeat for length of tentacle. Tentacle 4: Ch 111. Starting in second ch from hook, sc in each ch; repeat for length of tentacle. Tentacle 5: Ch 151. Starting in second ch from hook, (3 sc in next 2 ch, sc in next 3 ch); repeat for length of tentacle. Once you have made all five tentacles, form a bundle by folding each tentacle roughly in half, arranging artfully so that all of the ends hang to different lengths. Cut a long length of yarn (about a yard). Knot the yarn around the “halfway” point of your bundle, so that you end up with two long ends of yarn. Pull the knot tight, and wrap it around the bundle and knot it two or three more times. Tug a little on your tentacles to make sure they are being held firmly.
Knotting the yarn around the tentacles:

Thread a yarn needle with both loose ends of the yarn, and attach the bundle to the center of the "Base” of the jellyfish. Sew through several times, and sew around the knot on the bundle, to make sure that it's securely attached. ... And now you're done!!
