I wanted to keep this shawl simple, as I am a great lover of simple things. I feel that the shape, the lace with the biased points, the white linen and fresh feel is just as simple as I want it, without losing anything in charm or beauty. Try to wear it with a knot, let it hang loose to catch a summer breeze, tie it around your waist. Worn with florals or your favorite pair of jeans it will brighten up any cool summer day or chilly evening?

The wingspan of the shawl is 170cm/69". At center back the shawl measures 27cm/11". This is the unblocked measurements. Blocked I achieved 184cm/72". Wool: I used the divine, pure linen, “Kalinka" from Karin Oberg to work this shawl. It is much softer to work than you might think! This wool is fingering/4-ply (14 wpi), it comes in skeins of 100gr/3.53 to 320m/350yards. And in gorgeous colors... I used 1 skein of above wool to make the shawl, and was left with approximately 5gr = 16m. As we all knit differently I cannot guarantee that I skein would be sufficient. If you are in doubts: divide your skein in 2 equal parts, knit as far as it goes with the first half, which would be the center of your shawl, and work the second half from the center. You could substitute above wool, but I do recommend that you choose a fingering weight with a great stitch definition! Needles: straight or circular needles 3mm/US2.5 Stitch-marker: You need 1 stitch-marker between the lace and st st Using needles 3mm/US2.5 in st st: 26 sts and 29 rows = 10x10cm/4x4" Please note that needle size is suggested needle-size, and that gauge is taken after washing and blocking. If you want to work the shawl to exact measurement you have to stay true to gauge.

The shawl is knitted from tip to tip, starting in the right corner going to the left. The ends of the shawl are biased. Increases are made between the “body" of the shawl - worked in st st - and the lace-border. When you have worked to center of the back decreases are made between the “body" and the lace-border. If you want to change the length of the shawl you add or subtract increases.

Key symbols: see chart A, page 5 For best result: hand-wash your shawl in luke-warm water. Place on a blocking-board - using pins - and stretch out to measurements. Take care to keep the neckline straight, as well as stretching out the lace a bit to make most of all the yo's! When dry weave in loose ends. If needed, steam it. Please read specific instructions for the wool you have been using. Steam only if it is appropriate!

Ready to wear and to cherish!
