Braided Headband Knitting Pattern: A Quick Two-Hour Adventure for Worsted Medium Weight Yarn

Braided Headband

Hello Knitters. This design is a quick two hours knit adventure, enjoy! Yarn - Worsted Medium weight, approx. 70 yards. I used Manos de Uruguay, Maxima. Needles - US #9 (5.5 mm) Gauge - 18 sts, 22 rows in 4" Size - Blocked 19" Definitions: RS= Right Side WS= Wrong Side K = Knit P = Purl M1L = Make one Left M1R = Make one Right SM = Slip Marker PM = Place Marker C8B = Cable 8 Back (Slip next 4 stitches onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 4 stitches from left handneedle, then knit the 4 stitches from the cable. C8F = Cable 8 Front (Slip next 4 stitches onto cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next 4 stitches from left handneedle, then knit the 4 stitches from the cable.

Let's start ...

Cast on 10 stitches

Row 1 (RS) - K10 Row 2 and every even row (WS) - Purl all, unless otherwise stated. Row 3 - K1, M1L, K1, M1L, Knit to the last 2 stitches, M1R, K1, M1R, K1. (You should have 14 stitches total) Row 5 - K1, M1L, K1, M1L, K to the last 2 stitches, M1R, K1, M1R, K1 (18 stitches) Row 7 - K1, M1L, K1, M1L, K to the last 2 stitches, M1R, K1, M1R, K1 (22 stitches) Row 9 - K1, M1L, K1, M1L, K to the last 2 stitches, M1R, K1, M1R, K1 (26 stitches) Row 10 - P4, K1, PM, P16, PM, K1, P4. Row 11 - K4, P1, SM, P16, SM, P1, K4 Row 12 - P4, k1, SM, K16, SM, K1, P4 Pattern Established (the Braid) Row1 (RS)- K4, P1, PM, C8B, C8F, PM, P1, K4. Row2 (WS)- P4, K1, SM, Purl to marker, SM, K1, P4. Row3 - K4, P1, SM, Knit to marker, SM, P1, K4. Row4 - P4, K1, SM, Purl to marker, SM, K1, P4. Row5 - K4, P1, SM, Knit to marker, SM, P1, K4. Row6 - P4, K1, SM, Purl to marker, SM, K1, P4. Repeat 1-6 row until it measures 15" or the length desired. Make sure your last row is row 6.

Decreasing

Row-1 (RS) - K4, P1, SM, P16, SM, K1, P4. Row-2 (WS)- P4, K1, SM , K16, SM, K1, P4. Row-3 - K4 ,P1, SM, K16, SM, P1, K4 Row-4 - P4, K1, SM , P16, SM, K1, P4. Row-5 - K1, SSK, K1, SSK, K14, K2Tog, K1, K2Tog , K1. Row-6 - Purl all. (22 sts) Row-7 - K1, SSK, K1, SSK, K10, K2Tog, K1, K2Tog, K1. Row- 8 - Purl all stitches. (18sts) Row-10 - K1, SSK, K1, SSK, K6, K2Tog, K1, K2Tog, K1. Row 11 - Purl all the stitches. (14 st) Row 12 -K1, SSK, K1, SSK, K2, K2Tog, K1, K2Tog, K1. Row 13 - Purl all stitches. (10 stitches ) Row 14 Bind off

Seaming...

Before joining the headband make sure to block it first to reach the specific measurements 19" in this case. This will make it easier to join the garment.
