Tailwind
a knitting pattern by Clara Falk

Tailwind is a triangular shaped shawl knitted from one corner to the other. Increases on every row and decreases on the other row forms a long and just a little bit asymmetrical triangle that will be perfect for Wrapping around your neck. An I-cord edging on both short sides will hide the colour changes and also gives the shawl a cleaner look. Knitting from one corner to the other makes it possible to use any yarn you like and adjust the size after your amount of yarn, just bind off when you are happy with the size.

This pattern is for personal use only.
Begin here:
CO 3sts with colour B (clementine) using the long tail cast on method. Knit 3 rows of I-cord. After finishing the third round pick up 3sts along the knitted edge of the I-cord.
Begin to work body pattern:
WS: kfb, k until 3 sts remains, slip 3 sts with yarn in front. RS: k3, ssk, k until 1st remain, kfb. Continue to work like this until you have 21sts.
Begin to work stripes:
The stripes are worked in the same way as the body pattern, just with another colour. The first striped section consists of 5 stripes, the next of 6 stripes, then 7 stripes and so on, adding one more stripe to each section. Each stripe consists of two rows. Always change colour at the i-cord edging, so that you can hide the yarn ends in the i-cord. Between each striped section you will work with one colour for the same number of rows as for previous striped section.

Chart 1 For example the first section has 5 stripes and each stripe consists of two rows, then the following one coloured section will consist of 20 rows. See Chart 1 for example. Note that the chart only shows the colour striping. Continue alternating striped sections and one colour sections while still keeping the i-cord edging until your shawl has a size that you want or until you have about 5% of your yarn left. I ended after finishing a section with 10 stripes in pink and orange. End with a WS row.
I-cord bind off:
RS: \*k2, k2tog tbl. Slip the 3 worked sts back to the left needle\*. Pull the yarn tightly across the back of those sts and repeat from \* to \* until you have 3 sts left. Next row: \*k2, lift the first stitch worked over the second stitch worked\*, repeat from \*to\* 2 times. Pull the yarn through the last remaining stitch.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends. Wet block or steam block your shawl. Finished!
