VANITY BASKET TRIO

Lily Sugar $\mathrm{n^{\prime}}$ Cream, worsted, 95 yds $/~2~\mathrm{{oz}}$ $\mathrm{86\;m\;/\;56.7\;g)}$ , about 110 yds $(100\;\mathrm{m})$ for all three baskets (Note that achieving gauge is important for the cotton pads to fit the basket)

Directions for the square basket:
Base (measures 2 1/2 by 2 3/4 in (6.4 by 7 cm): Ch 13. Row 1 (RS): Starting in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch until end of ch. 12 sc. Ch 1 and turn. Row $2:1$ sc in each sc until end of row. Ch 1 and turn. Repeat row 2 twelve times or until piece measures 2 3/4" $\mathrm{7~cm}$ . 14 sc rows total. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Side 1:
Ch 10. Row 1 (RS): Starting in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch until end of ch. 9 sc. Ch 1 and turn. Row $2:1$ sc in each sc until end of row. Ch 1 and turn. Repeat row 2 eleven times (for a total of 13 sc rows) or until piece measures 2 1/2" $\mathrm{{[6.4\;cm}]}$ .Donot break the yarn. Side 2:
Next row is the folding row: If this row is a RS row, then: · 1 sc in each sc through the back loops only until end of row. Ch 1 and turn. But if this row is a WS row, then: · 1 sc in each sc through the front loops only until end of row. Ch 1 and turn. Working through both loops again, work row 2 eleven times (for a total of 12 sc rows in side 2) or until side 2 measures 2 3/8" $\mathrm{(6\;cm)}$ . Do not break the yarn.
Side 3:
Work another folding row. Working through both loops again, repeat row 2 twelve times (for a total of 13 sc rows in side 3) or until side 3 measures 2 1/2" $(6.4\;\mathrm{cm})$ . Do not break the yarn.
Side 4:
Work as given for side 2. Do not break the yarn. In the next row, join the just completed side (side 4) to the first one as follows: place foundation ch behind row worked on last and align. 1 sc in each sc until end of row while working through both thicknesses. Be sure not to fasten off. Weave in all loose ends.
Join base to sides:
Align bottom edges of sides with the base, fitting corners of base to the folding lines and the long edges of the side with the long edges of the base. On the RS, work 1 round of sc through both thicknesses of base and sides. Join round with slip st in first sc of the round. Fasten off and weave in loose end.
Directions for the round basket:
Ch 4. Join for the round with slip st in first ch. Round 1: Ch 3 (this counts as first dc), 8 dc into the center of the ch. 9 dc. Join round with slip st in 3rd ch of the round. Round 2: Ch 3 (this counts as first dc), 1 dc into 3rd ch of the previous round (the one hooked into when joining the previous round), {3 dc into next sc, 2 dc into next sc} 4 times. 22 dc. Join round with slip st in 3rd ch of the round. Round 3: Ch 3 (this counts as first dc), 1 dc into 3rd ch of the previous round (the one hooked into when joining the previous round), {2 dc into next sc} 21 times. 44 dc. Join round with slip st in 3rd ch of the round. Round 4 (Folding round): working through the back loop only, I sc in each dc. 44 sc. From now on, work through both loops again. In an upwards spiral, 1 sc in each sc until side reaches the desired height. As shown, the small round basket is 2" (5 cm) high, the big one measures 3" $(7.6\;\mathrm{cm})$ Fasten off and weave in all ends.
