Basket Weave Baby Blanket I By ducks1742, c0pyright 2014 Plymouth Dream Baby Yarn: 50 gram skeins - 6 skeins 50% Acrylic microfiber, 50% Nylon (machine wash, gentle cycle, tumble dry low) Gauge: 5 sts/inch Needles: size 4 (or size needed for desired gauge) Final product: 36" × 33" Weighed 288 grams Overall Plan: Seed stitch border (2.5"), basket weave center. 180 stitches total. Edge stitch, 11 stitches seed stitch, 156 stitches basket weave, 11 stitches seed stitch, edge stitch. Edge stitch: Always slip first stitch and always purl last stitch for nice edge.

Pattern:

Cast on 180 stitches. Starting with K stitch, work row 1 in seed stitch except at center of row, K stitch 91 to reverse seed stitch pattern and then continue in seed stitch. This is so borders will match. Repeat seed stitch for a total of 19 rows (2.5 inches), continuing reverse at stitch 91 as in row 1. Work pattern chart to 2.5 inches less than desired length, ending with row 8 (for symmetry). This worked out to 19 pattern repeats plus rows 1-8 in my blanket. Work seed stitch for 19 rows (2.5 inches), continuing reverse at stitch 91 as in row 1. Bind off.

Notes: Basket weave found in Mon Tricot Knitting Dictionary (Paris, France, 1972), pattern 215 on page 44. If I did this again, I might use a bigger basket weave.
