Size

Knit in chunky, this hat fits a 3yo. To size down, you can either knit it in DK or 4ply, or stop before final increase round. To size up, work a further 2 rounds and insert another increase round to reach 70sts. Larger sizes may require an extra ball of yarn.
Pattern
Body
Make a large slipknot that tightens with its tail. Ch1 into the slipknot, dc5 into the slip knot. Pull the tail to tighten the knot. Working in the round, dc2 into each dc from the previous round: 10 sts. dc twice into each dc: 20 sts. dc 1 round. \*dc2 into one dc, dc1 \*repeat to end: 30 sts. dc 1 round. \*dc2 into one dc, dc2 \*repeat to end: 40 sts. dc 1 round. \*dc2 into one dc, dc3 \*repeat to end: 50 sts. dc 2 rounds. \*dc2 into one dc, dc4 \*repeat to end: 60 sts. Work remainder of hat in dc, stopping when a good fit is reached.
Ear flaps
dc 19, turn. \*\*dc 8, turn. Repeat this row 6 times. dc2tog, dc4, dc2tog, turn. dc2tog, dc2, dc2tog, turn. dc2tog twice \*\*, fasten off. Re-attach yarn 11 sts from first ear flap and repeat \*\* to \*\*. Do not fasten off; instead, dc around the ear flaps and brim of hat to neaten up the edges. Tassles Using 4 strands of yarn held together, ch15 from centre of ear flap and fasten off. Trim ends, leaving 1in/2.5cm tails.
Bing Ears
Make a large slipknot that tightens with its tail. ch1 into the slipknot, dc6 into the slip knot. Pull the tail to tighten the knot. dc 1 rnd, dc2 into each dc from the previous round: 12 sts. dc 1 rnd, \*dc2 into one dc, dc1 \*repeat to end: 18sts dc 8 rnds, \*dc2tog, dc7, dc2tog, dc to end: 16sts dc 2 rnds, \*dc2tog, dc6, dc2tog, dc to end: 14sts dc 2 rnds, break yarn and fasten off. If you want your Bing ears to stand up, cut some card to size and insert into ears.
Assembly
Weave in ends as required. Cut felt pieces as specified below. Pin these to the finished hat and sew on using sewing thread and a fine needle. Sew ears in place.
