Forward and Back Sock

You drive forwards, and then you turn back. Size: Smallto Medium; Large in parentheses Style: Cuff to toe Gauge: 7.75 sts over stockinette Needles: size 2.50mm (size 1.5); 2 circulars, or whatever you're comfortable with Yarn: 350-400 yds of sock weight yarn Pattern repeat: 28 (32) stitches Small/medium size Large size

Cast on:

Cast on 56 (64) stitches loosely. Divide your sts up as follows: 24 (32) on needle one, and 32 (32) on needle two. Dividing the stitches by 8 on each needle makes it much easie to knit. Ribbing: Work k2,p2 ribbing around. Repeat ribbing for about 1 inch, or whatever you wish.

Join yarn and rearrange stitches on smallsize so that you have 28 sts on each needle. Work in pattern for 6 inches more or however long you want your leg to be. Finish the leg so that you complete the sts on the second needle.

Heel:

Heel flap is worked on 28 (32) sts on needle two. At the end of needle two, turn work so that the wrong side isfacing you. Row 1. Sl 1 purlwise, purl to end of row. Row 2. \*SlI purlwise, k1\*. Repeat from \* to end. Repeat these two rows until27 (31) rws are completd. Yu are now onthe right side of thehelfap.

Heel Gusset:

Work acrosstheheelflap sts onNeedle two. With the tip of Needle two, pickup14(16) sts along theside of the heel. Pick up a stitch from the row below the first instep stitch to prevent a hole: 15 (17) stitches picked up. Needle one: Work across the28 (32) instep stitches in patten. From now on, the sockwil be done in patern on the instep and in stockinette on the foot. With the point of needle two, pick up a stitch from the row below the first heel st to prevent a hole. Pick up 14 (16) sts along the right side of the heel: 15 (17) sts picked up. Place a marker half way across the foot sts. This il help you count your decreases accurately. Shape Gusset:

Dec. round: At beginning of needle two (foot sts), k1,ssk, work to 3 sts before the end of needle two, k2tog, k1. Work the instep plain. Do not decrease here. Work the next round without decreases. Continue to decrease on alternate rounds on the foot sts. Work until 56 (64) sts remain.

Foot:

Needle one: instep Needle two: bottom of foot. Continue working in rounds until the sock is about 1.5 inches from the end.

Shape Toe:

Round 1: On nede one,k, ssk,knit until 3 sts before the end of the needle, k2tog, k. Rpeat on eede to. From now on, you willbe working only in stockinette. Work the next round plain. Work these 2 rounds until a total of 20 (24)sts, remain. 10 (12) stitches on each needle.

Finishing:

Holding needles one and two together, graf sts on them together using the Kitchener st. Weave in ends on inside of sock.

Work the second sock.
