A lovely clover lace pattern is the basis for a slouchy beret-style hat. Its easy lace pattern makes for a very simple and elegant one-skein gift.

YARN SweetGeorgia Yarns Merino Silk Aran (50% silk, 50% merino; 185 yd/100 g): Ultraviolet, 1 skein OR SweetGeorgia Yarns Superwash Worsted (100% superwash merino; 200 yd/115 g): Saffron, 1 skein
NEEDLES
Suggested: US Size 7 and 8 (4.5 mm and 5 mm) 16" circular needles and US 8 (5 mm) double-pointed needles. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.
FINISHED SIZE
Fits up to a 22-inch head circumference.
GAUGE
4.5 sts per inch using larger needle
INSTRUCTIONS
Using smaller circular needle, CO 96 sts. Place marker and join in the round. Begin Twisted Rib pattern.
TWISTED RIB PATTERN
\*Ktbl1, pl; rep from \* to end. Repeat until hat measures 1 inch from CO edge. Switch to larger needle and work increase round as follows: \*k8, m1 by lifting a loop between stitches with left needle and knitting into back of loop\* (12 times), k8 [108 sts on needle]. Begin Clover Lace pattern.
CLOVERLACE PATTERN
Round 1: \*k1, yo, k1, yo, k4, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3\*. Round 2 and all even rounds: Knit. Round 3: \*k1, [yo, k3] twice, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k2\*. Round 5: \*k1, yo, k5, yo, k2, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k1\*. Round 7: \*k3, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k4, yo, k1, yo, k1\*. Round 9: \*k2, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3, yo, k3, yo, k1\*. Round 11: \*k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k5, yo, k1\*. Round 12: Knit. Repeat until you have completed 30 rounds in total. (Work an additional 12 rounds if you want an even longer, slouchier hat).

CLOVER LACE CHART

SHAPE CROWN
Round 1: \*k3, sl 1, k2tog, psso\* repeat to end. Round 2 and all even rounds: Knit. Round 3: \*k5, sl 1, k2tog, psso\* repeat to end. Round 5: \*k3, sl 1, k2tog, psso\* repeat to end. Round 7: \*k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso\* repeat to end. Round 9 and 10: \*k2tog tbl\* repeat for two rounds until there are 5 sts remaining Break yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail. Thread yarn tail through remaining live stitches and tighten. Weave in yarn ends and trim after blocking.
BLOCKING
Soak hat in water, adding gentle wool wash if desired, for at least 20 minutes. Rinse and wrap in towel to remove excess water. Stretch the hat over a dinner plate to open up lace and create the circular beret shape. Leave in place until dry. Trim yarn ends and enjoy!
