ABBREVIATIONS:
CUFF:
k2p2: knit 2, purl 2 ssk: slip, slip, knit k2tog: knit 2 together p2tog: purl 2 together ktbl: knit through back loop

Cast on 68 stitches. Work in k2p2 ribbing for 1 inch. Join in the round either before or after knitting the cuff. (l always knit ribbed cuffs flat and seam them up at the end with the yarn tail.) Distribute stitches so there are 17 stitches on each of four needles. For this pattern, needles 2 and 3 are the front of the sock.
LEG:
Work 1 repeat of the texture pattern chart on page X, working the chart stitches on needles 2 and 3, and all stitches on needles 1 and 4 in stockinette. Work rows 1 through 15 one additional time.
HEEL FLAP:
Work a slip-stitch heel across all stitches from needles 1 and 4 as follows: Row 1: (slip 1, k1) across (move all 34 heel flap stitches to one needle on thisrow) Row 2: slip 1, purl across Repeat rows 1 and 2 16 more times, for 34 total rows.
HEEL TURN:
k 21, ssk, k1, turn. slip 1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn. slip 1, k10, ssk, k1, turn. Continue in this manner, reducing one stitch across the gap between the slipped stitch and the next unworked stitch on each row, until the ssk/p2tog use the last 2 stitches on the row. 20 sts remain.
GUSSETS:
Knit across half of the heel stitches (10 sts). With a free needle, knit across the other half of the heel stitches, and pick up 19 stitches along the heel flap. Work across needles 2 and 3, continuing to follow the texture pattern chart starting back with row 16. Pick up 19 stitches along the other side of the heel flap, and knit across the first half of the heel stitches with the same needle. Continuing the texture pattern chart on needles 2 and 3, reduce stitches from the gusset needles as follows: Round 1:
QUESTIONS?
You can contact the mnky at mnkyknts on Ravelry. Needle 1: knit to last 3 stitches on needle, k2tog, ktbl. Needle 4: ktbl, ssk, knit to end. Round 2: Needle 1: knit to last stitch, ktbl Needle 4: ktbl, knit to end Note: The ktbls are optional, but I find they make a for a sturdy gusset, particularly on the first few rounds where there tend to be gaps/holes where the heel flap is joined back to the body of the sock. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until 17 stitches remain on each needle.
FOOT:
Continue working until you have completed 3 full repeats of the texture pattern chart, plus rows 1 through 15 one additional time. End by knitting across needles 4 and 1.
TOE:
Round 1: Needle 2: k1, ssk, k12, p2 Needle 3: p2, k12, k2tog, k1 Needle 4: k1, ssk, knit to end Needle 1: knit to 3 stitches from end, k2tog, k1 Round 2: Needle 2: k15, p1 Needle 3: p1, k15 Needle 4: knit Needle 1: knit Round 3: Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to end Needle 3: knit to 3 stitches from end, k2tog, k1 Needle 4: k1, ssk, knit to end Needle 1: knit to 3 stitches from end, k2tog, k1 Round 4: Knit all stitches on all needles. Repeat rounds 3 and 4 until 9 stitches remain on each needle. Repeat round 4 until 5 stitches remain on each needle.
FINISHING:
Rearrange stitches so you have 10 on each of 2 needles, one for the top and bottom of the sock. Graft toe stitches together and weave in ends.

For a sock with a smaller circumference, you can: Go down a needle size, resulting in a denser fabric. Work fewer rows of the chart pattern by skipping an equal number of rows from the bottom and top of the chart. For example, a 64 stitch sock would work chart rows 2 through 27 only. For a sock with a larger circumference, you can: Go up a needle size, resulting in a looser fabric. When you cast on, add stitches in multiples of 4 (one for each working needle). When working the chart, knit one extra plain stitch at the beginning of needle 2 and the end of needle 3 for each multiple of 4 stitches added. For example, if you add 8 stitches to the cast on number, you would knit 2 plain stitches at the beginning of needle 2, knit the chart, then knit 2 plain stitches at the end of needle 3. If you adjust the number of stitches in either direction, remember that you will also have a different number of stitches for your heel flap, and you will need to adjust the number of toe decreases worked.
