A pattern adapted from Susie's Reading Mitts by Dancing Ewe Yarns
Use: Size 5 DPNs, worsted-weight yarn I used Caron's Simply Soft Gauge - eh? 5 stitches / 6 rows = one inch in stockinette Finished glove fits my women's size 6.5 hands. Feels like it could stretch considerably larger, not sure about smaller. Stitches used: knit, purl, yarn over, knit two together, make one right, make one left Make one right: spread the needles to see the bar between. Poke the left needle under from behind to pick up the bar, knit that. Make one left: spread the needles to see the bar between. Poke the left needle under from the front to pick up the bar, knit that through the back loop. Cast on 42 stitches (14 stitches on each of three needles.) Close and knit one round. Place marker for start of round. Perl one round. Knit one round.
Decrease the cuff
Knit 21, knit two together, knit to start of round marker, knit two together. Knit one round. Knit 10, knit two together, knit 20, knit two together. Knit one round. Knit 20, knit two together, knit to start of round marker, knit two together. Knit one round. Knit 10, knit two together, knit 20, knit two together. Knit one round. Knit 18, knit two together, knit to start of round, knit two together. Knit one round. ou should know have 32 stitches - two needles of 11 and one of 10, if you like Lacey stripe (totally stolen from Susie's Reading Mitts) Purl one round. Knit one round. \*Knit two together, yarn over\* repeat for whole round. Knit one round. Purl one round. Knit 9 rounds. Knit 4 rounds in seed stitch. Which is, knit one, purl one - then reverse that for the next row so every knit gets a purl and every purl gets a knit. Knit 12 rounds in garter stitch. Knit two, purl two - repeat around. Purls into purls, knits into knits. Knit 4 rounds in seed stitch. Knit one round.
Increase for thumb:
Knit to one stitch before end-of-row marker. Make one left. Knit one. Move marker. Make one right. (two stitch increase) Knit the rest of the round. Knit to two stitches before end-of-row marker. Make one left. Knit two. Move marker. Knit one. Make one right. (two stitch increase) Knit the rest of the round. Knit to three stitches before end of row marker. Make one left. Knit three. Move marker Knit two. Make one right. (two stitch increase) Knit the rest of the round. Knit to four stitches before end of row marker. Make one left. Knit four. Move marker. Knit three. Make one right. (two stitch increase) Knit one round.
Separate thumb onto waste yarn:
Knit to five stitches before end of row marker. Slide next nine stitches onto waste yarn. Cast on one stitch. Continue around. Knit three rounds. Repeat Lacy Stripe: Purl one round. Knit one round. \*knit two together, yarn over\* around Knit one round Purl one round Knit one round Cast off. Pick up 9 thumb stitches. Pick up new cast-on stitch and one stitch on either side of it. Total 12 stitches on needles. Knit three rounds. Purl one round. Knit one round. Cast off. Weave in ends, you're done!
