This simple hat is great for knitters of any skill level, and works up fast to make an adorable and whimsical topper for any age!

MATERIALS NEEDED

One skein I Love This Yarn! (100% acrylic; 355 yards/325 meters per 198 grams) US 9 /5.5 mm 16" circular needle TWO size US 9 / 5.5 mm double-pointed needle (for three-needle bind off) Darning needle for weaving in ends.

GAUGE

16 sts = 4" in stockinette (row gauge unimportant)

SIZES

newborn (0-3 months, 3-6 months)

DIRECTIONS

Using long tail method, CO 48 (52, 56) sts. Place marker to join, being careful not to twist. Rnd 1-4: [K 2, P 2] around. Rnd 5: K all stitches around. Repeat rnd 5 until hat measures 5 (5.5, 6)" from CO edge.

FINISHING

Being careful not to drop any stitches, turn hat inside out. Perform Three Needle Bind-Off (instructions below) to close top of hat. Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Weave in all ends. Turn hat right-side out, and it's readytowear!

THREE NEEDLE BIND-OFF

Divide stitches evenly on the two needles (25 per needle for newborn size, 29 per needle for 0-6 month size). Make sure right sides are facing each other. Hold these two needles in your left hand, and the single DPN in your right (as shown above).

Step One: Insert DPN knitwise into the first stitch on each needle.

Wrap as though to knit and draw the working yarn through both stitches to make one stitch on the righthandneedle. Repeat this one more time so you have two stitches on the right-hand needle. Step Two: Using the tip of one of the needles in your left hand, lift the first stitch worked over the second stitch worked, just like regular binding off. Repeat Step One once, and then Step Two once, until you have worked all stitches off the needles.
