G (4.00) hook for rib I hook 5.50 mm for Hat Gauge 12 dc=4 inches Toddler 16 inches around by 6 inches long slouch style 7inches long XSmall 18inches around by 7 inches long slouch style 8 inches long Small Beanie 20 inches around by 8 inches long slouch style 9 inches long Medium 22 inches around by 9 inches long slouch style 10 inches long Large 24 inches around by 10 inches long slouch style 12 inches long The cat applique is completed separately. Then sewn to the hat. Embroidery is used to add the details, such as the pupils, and the spaces in between the teeth. CatApplique Make a magic circle with Purple. R2 9 sc. Ch8, turn.
R3 Eyes and Nose Sk 4 sc. Bobble of (5 hdc all in the center st). Take hook out of loop. Insert in first st. Pick up working loop, and pull it through. Tighten up on loop to close bobble. Ch8. Sk 4 sc, slst in last st. Pull up a big loop, drop yarn.
R3a) Ears Join pink in same sp as purple. Skip to the Ist Dbtr of the forehead. Split the st as follows: make a hdc by passing hook through and dividing the 4 center threads. Continue in the same space with a shell of(dc, tr, dbtr, tr, dc, hdc). Skip to the center of the forehead. Make a slst in the magic ring. Sk to the center of the starting ch, on the other side of the forehead. Make a shell of (hdc,dc, tr, dbtr, tr, dc, hdc). Slst in the next sc. Pull up a big loop. Drop yarn
R3b) Pick up purple. Working back over the pink stitches. Make 1 sc in each st up to the middle dbtr of the ear. Make 3 sc in the center st of the ear. 1 sc in each of the next stitches to the middle st of the forehead. Make a sc in the magic ring that covers the pink slst. Continue around with 1 sc in each sp to the middle of the ear. Make 3 in the center. Sc around to the beg of the ch8 loop of the eye. R3c) Make 10 sc in first loop. 3sc in the slst of the bobble nose. 10 sc in the 2nd loop. Join with a slst. End off, cut yarn.
R4 Upper Lip Right side facing. Pick up pink. Ch1, slst in 1s sc of eye. Sc in each of the nxt 2 sts. 3 hdc, 3 dc. 5tr. 3 dc, 3 hdc, 2 sc. Slst in next last st of eye. End off, cut yarn
R5 Teeth Right side facing Work in the back loop for all the stitches of this row. Sk slst. Join white yarn in 1"t sc with a slst. Sc in next. Hdc. (Dc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the next)4x. Dc in ea of the next 3 sts, hdc, sc, slst in last end off. Cut yarn. R6 Join Pink Yarn in the first purple sc of the eye. Make 2 sc in the first slst of the teeth. 1 sc in every st across the teeth. 2 sc in last slst of the teeth. Join in purple st of eye. End off. Cut yarn
Hat
Make a magic circle with eye color. Ch3 R1 11 dc in ring. Join with a slst in tp of beg ch. Ch 3 R2 & 3 dc in same sp as beg ch. 2 dc in every dc around. Join, end of, cut yarn (24 sts 48 sts), R4 and 5 Join purple Dc in every st around. Join, ch3 R6&7 Join pink. Dc in every st around. Join, ch3 Toddler Size Change back to purple. Work in stripes of 2 dc rounds each color until hat measures 6 inches, or desired length for beanie. Add 1 or 2inches for a slouchy fit. End off. Cut yarn Child R8 Change to purple. Dc around. Increase to 54 stitches. Join, ch3 Work in stripes of 2 dc rounds of each color until hat measures 7 inches, or desired length for beanie, add 1 to 2 inches for a slouchy fit Small R8 Change to purple. Dc around. Increase to 60 stitches. Join, ch3 R9 Dc around, join, change color Work in stripes of 2 dc rounds of each color until hat measures 8inches, or desired length for beanie. Add an additional 1 or 2 inches for a slouchy fit Medium R8 Change to purple. Dc around. Increase to 66 stitches. Join. Ch3 R9 Dc around, join, change color Work in stripes of 2 dc rounds of each color until hat measures 9 inches, or desired length for beanie. Add an additional 1 or 2 inches for a slouchy fit. Large Sizes R8 Change to purple (Dc, 2 dc in the next st) around. Join, ch3 (72 sts) R9 Dc around, join, change color Work in stripes of 2 dc rounds of each color until hat measures 10 inches, or desired length for beanie. Finishing
Sew Cat to back of hat leaving ears free. Sew around eyes to keep them in position. Embroider teeth, and pupils of eyes Weave in any loose ends.
