Cabled Colourscape Fingerless Mitts

This simple cabled lace pattern is fantastic at breaking up the stripes in that colourful variegated yarn - much more interesting than plain old stripes! Yarn: Knitting Goddess BFL 4 ply sock yarn in Green Woodpecker Needles: 2.75mm circular needle, long enough for magic loop Extras: 2 stitch markers, waste yarn Gauge: $15\mathsf{s t}=2$ inches Size: Women's medium. The lace pattern makes the mittens quite stretchy, but if necessary, the size can be increased by adding stitches to the palm side of the mitten.

Cast on 50 stitches, join to work in the round. Wrist Cuff: K1tbl, P1 ribbing. Repeat for ten rounds. Hand: 8 pattern repeats, thumb gusset, then a further 5 pattern repeats Finger cuff: k1tbl, P1 ribbing for six rounds
In Detail:
Cast on 50 stitches, join to work in the round. Rearrange stitches so that there are 29 stitches on the front needle, 21 stitches on the back. Work 8 pattern repeats. The stitch pattern is done on the front needle only, the back needle (the palm of the mitten) is knit every row.

Thumb Gusset (right hand)
The thumb gusset is worked on the back needle (palm side) Round 1 : knit all stitches Round 2: K2, pm, M1, pm, K19 Increase 2st between markers every second round as follows: K2, slip marker, M1, Knit to marker, M1, slip marker, K19 Continue increases until you have 15 stitches between the markers. Knit the following row as normal, then on the row after that, place the 15 st between markers onto waste yarn, continue knitting in original pattern (knitting all stitches on palm side/back needle).
Thumb Gusset (left hand)
The thumb gusset is worked on the back needle (palm side) Round 1: knit all stitches Round 2: K19, pm, M1, pm, K2 Increase 2st between markers every second round as follows: K19, slip marker, M1, Knit to marker, M1, slip marker, K2 Continue increases until you have 15 stitches between the markers. Knit the following row as normal, then on the row after that, place the 15 st between markers onto waste yarn, continue knitting in original pattern (knitting all stitches on palm side/back needle). Do five more complete pattern repeats (17 in total). Work Ktbl, P1 ribbing for 6 rounds. Cast off loosely (l use the Elizabelth Zimmerman sewn bind-off)
Thumb:
Place 15 stitches from waste yarn onto needle. Pick up and knit 5 stitches from top of gusset, then continue knitting around the 15 gusset stitches. Work 4 rounds in total Switch to Ktbl, P1 ribbing for 6 rounds Cast off loosely
