Designed by Rebecca Mercier for Lonnie. stats Finished size: Men's size 11 Yarn: 100 grams fingering wt. Needles: Size: US 1 (2.5 mm) set of 5 dpns (magic loop or 2 circs if preferred). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge. Gauge: 8 sts per inch Notions: darning needle, stitch holder, stitch markers Slip Stitch Pattern for leg and instep: Rnd 1: knit all sts Rnd 2: \*slip 1 with yarn in back, k3; rep from \* Rnd 3: \*p1, k3; rep from \* Rnd 4: \*slip 1 with yarn in back, p3; rep from ' Cuff: Loosely cast on 72 sts. dividing them evenly onto 4 dpns being very careful not to twist sts. Rnds 1-10: \*k1, p1; rep. from \* Leg: Work SlipStitchPatternfor 3.5 in Heel Flap: Place 36 sts on a stitch holder or leave the sts on 2 dpns. Work remaining 36 sts as follows, knitting back and forth on 1 needle. Row1 (RS): slip 1, \*k1, sl 1; rep from \* Row 2 (wS): slip 1, purl across Row 3 (RS): slip 1, \*sl 1, k1; rep from \* Row 4: repeat row 2 Continue this pattern for 3 inches ending with row a RS row (1 or 3). Shape Heel: Row 1 (WS): p19, p2tog, p1, turn Row 2 (RS): sl 1, k3, ssk, k1, turn Row 3: sl 1, p4, p2tog, p1, turn Row 4: sl 1, k5, ssk, k1, turn Row 5: sl 1, p6, p2tog, p1, turn Continue in this fashion, increasing by 1 the number of sts worked before the decrease in each row, until you have 20 sts, finishing with a right side row, ready to pick up gusset sts.
Instep:
With RS facing and needle 1, pick up and knit 18 sts along first side of heel flap; then pick up another 2 sts @ the end of the gusset (this is to prevent a hole). With needles 2 & 3 continue in the slip st. pattern across instep. With needle 4 pick up 2 extra sts @ the beginning of the gusset, then pick up and knit 18 sts along gusset, then knit across 10 sts along the heel flap. Before beginning gusset decreasing knit one round (continue slip st pattern on instep), ktbl of the 20 pu sts on needles #1 and #4, this will tighten the pu sts.
Gusset Decreases
\*\* Remember..you are continuing in the slip st pattern on the instep sts\*\* Rnd 1: Needle 1: knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 Needles 2 & 3: cont slip st pattern Needle 4: k1, ssk, knit remaining sts Rnd 2: Needles 1 & 4: knit all sts Needles 2 & 3: cont in pattern Repeat these 2 rnds until you have 18 sts on needles 1 & 4
Foot of sock:
Continue to knit in rnds; needles 1 & 4: knit; needles 2 & 3: slip st. pattern until sock measures 9 inches or 2 inches shorter than desired length of sock.
Toe Shaping:
Rnd 1: Needle 1: knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 Needle 2: k1, ssk, k remaining sts Needle 3: knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 Needle 4: k1, ssk, k remaining sts Rnd 2: knit all sts Repeat these 2 rnds until 44 total sts remain. Repeat rnd 1 until 24 total sts remain. Place 12 sts on 2 needles (1 needle on the top or instep side of the sock and 1 needle on the bottom or heel side of the sock) and graft toe together using Kitchener st.
