Platypus scarf crochet pattern from Rosy Alice Crochet Designs @ Ravelry

What you will need: 5mm crochet hook Yarn in colours of your choice Tapestry needle Stitches used: Treble crochet (US double crochet) Double crochet (US single crochet) Chain. Slip stitch. Magic circle (if you like) You can make this scarf in any colour combinations you like. You could make the feet and head different colours, or stripey etc.
The tail:
Chain 21. Turn. Row 1: treble crochet into each chain. Chain 1. Turn. Rest of rows: repeat row 1 until scarf is as long as desired. I crocheted 84 rows in the green yarn.

The head and body.
Change colour to make the head and body section. We are going to make it wider than the tail. Chain 6. Turn your work. Treble crochet into the chains you have just made. You will then reach the main body of your work. Continue to treble crochet across until the end of the row. Chain 6 and turn your work again. Then, treble crochet back across. I crocheted 20 rows for the head. Fasten off yarn.
The bill:
Insert your hook into the 6" stitch from one of the sides, draw up the yarn and chain 1. Make a treble crochet into this same stitch. Row A: Treble crochet into the next 19 stitches. Row B: 2 tr into first stitch. 1 tr into each stitch all the way across. 2 tr into last stitch. Row C: Repeat row B. Row D: Repeat row B. Row E: Tr2tog into first 2 stitches. 1 tr into each stitch all the way across. Tr2tog into last 2 stitches. Row F: Repeat row E. Row G: Repeat row E. Row H: Repeat row E.
The feet:
Make 4. I crocheted the feet directly into the 5'h row along from each end of the body in order to space them evenly. You can make them separately and attach them if you like, but working straight into the body is quicker and easier. Row 1: 1dc into first stitch and into each of the next 9 stitches. Row 2: Repeat row 1. Row 3: 2dc into each stitch across.
The eyes:
Make 2. Start with a magic circle or chain 4 and join with a slip stitch. Round 1, with black yarn: 10 htr. Round 2: 2 htr into each stitch from previous round. Round 3, with white yarn: [1 htr into first stitch, 2 htr into next] all the way round. Round 4: [1 htr into first stitch, 1 htr into next, 2 htr into next] all the way round. Fasten off and sew onto body as shown in photo. Sew in all ends.
