Skill Level:
Beginner: Simple knit and purl as well as increasing and decreasing. Size: Variable. My finished dimensions for both were a 9x9 inch "square". You may adjust to make it bigger or smaller as needed. Gauge: 4 stitches and 6 rows = 1 inch in pattern. Pattern abbreviations K- Knit; P- Purl; M1L - make one left; M1R - Make one right; SSK - slip, slip, knit; K2tog - Knit 2 together. Tools Dishcloth cotton (Sugar n' creme used here). Either 1/2 skein in one color or 2 1/4 skeins in two colors. Pattern writtenwith2colors. Stitch markers if desired US size 8 needles Tapestry needle to weave in ends Pattern notes SSk- slip the next 2 stitches, 1 by 1, knitwise; insert the tip of the left needle from left to right into the fronts of those 2 sts and knit them tog. 1 st decreased. K2tog - knit two stitches together M1R - Insert left needle, from back to front, under strand of yarn which runs between next stitch on left needle and last stitch on right needle; knit this stitch through front loop. 1 stitch increased. \*\* To avoid a hole in your M1's, twist the strand before knitting it. For this pattern I let myself make holes\*\*
The below pattern is for the yellow version. If you wish to make the green version, see note at end of pattern.
Cast on: Cast on 3 stitches with method of choice Knit one row. Body increases Row 1 -k1, m1R, p1, m1L, k1 Row 2 - knit across Row 4 - knit across Switch to second color, carrying the first color along the side as needed Row 5 - k1, m1R, knit to one stitch before end, m1L, k1 Row 6 - k1, purl to one stitch from end, k1 Row 7-8 - repeat rows 5-6 Switch back to first color, carrying the yarn along the side as needed Continue until you reach the desired length. (one diagonal side will be the length, mine was approx.. 9in). End with Row 8.

Body decreases
Now begin your decreasing side as follows. Row 1 - k1, ssk, purl to 3 stitches from end, k2tog, k1 Row 2 - knit across Row 3-4 - repeat row 1-2 Switch colors, carrying the first color along the side as needed Row 5 - k1, ssk, knit to 3 stitches from end, k2tog, k1 Row 6 - k1, purl until one stitch from end, k1 Row 7-8 - repeat rows 5-6 Switch colors, carrying the first color along the side as needed Continue in pattern until 3 stitches remain. Final row - ssk, k1, cut yarn and pull through two stitches. Weave in ends. \*\* even on the purl rows, I chose to decrease knit wise because I like the look. If you wish to decrease purl wise, that is fine also \*\* Green Version Notes: To knit the green version, do the same steps as above, but just do rows 1-2 and 5-6 once before switching, so you will have bands that are only 2 rows tall instead of 4 rows.
