Kaleidoscope Cowl (free pattern)
① Sunday, 12th January, 2014 yo,k4, ssk It's that time... Time for another free pattern! knitting, pattern, yarn stash Since I never finished this scarf, it's been in a plastic bin for the better part of three or more years... Most times, I love a wide scarf le Clapotis style. Generally, this requires several hundred yards of fingering weight yarn. Since I only have about 300 yards of DK yarn, I'm knitting this as a cowl.

AbouttheStitch
The cowl uses a stitch variation from this pattern. By “variation," I mean a mistake on my part that turned out nicely! The stitch pattern is a one-row repeat: \* k2tog, yo \*; repeat from \*to \* across all stitches to the last, yo, k1. I'm alternating all three skeins, one per row. There's probably a method to knit this in the round. I just don't know it. So,I knit this flat. I don't mind a bit of seaming.
Size
21-inches circumference; 11-inches tall
Gauge
Not critical. I used the recommended size on the label of the skein.
Materials
· 4.0 mm/US 6 needles · Approximately 360 yards of DK weight yarn. I used one skein of Noro Lilly and two skeins of Koigu Kersti Merino Crepe. ·Yarnneedle First, off I designated the yarn balls as MC (Main Colour), CC1 (Contrasting Colour 1), and CC2 lab5091.com/2014/01/12/kaleidoscope-cowl-free-pattern/ (Contrasting Colour 2).

MC: Rainbow multi (Koigu Kersti) CC1: Brown/Teal multi (Noro Lily) CC2: Lavendar/Purple/Brown multi (Koigu Kersti)
Instructions
Basically, the beginning and last stitch are knit in stockinette, knit the one-row repeat, and alternate between yarn balls. Here's what I did: With MC, CO 122 (or any number of even stitches). Set up rows: Knit two rows in stockinette. Alternatively, for a truly reversible cowl, you can knit two rows garter stitch. I prefer the stockinette roll at the top and bottom of the cowl. Drop MC (do not break yarn) and attach CC1. Knit next row with CC1. Row 1 (RS): K2, \* k2tog, yo \*, repeat from \* to \* across all stitches to the last two, k2. Drop CC1 (do not break yarn) and attach CC2. Knit next row with CC2. Row 2 (Ws): P1, kl, \* k2tog, yo \*, repeat from \* to \* across all stitches to the two last, kl, p1. Drop CC2 (do not break yarn) and pick up MC. Knit next row with MC. Row 3 (RS): K2, \* k2tog, yo \*, repeat from \* to \* across all stitches to the last two, k2. Repeat rows 1-3 to desired length... or is it height since this is a cowl? Knit two rows in stockinette. Bind off loosely. Sew edges using the mattress stitch method. Weave in ends. Smile at your fabulous finished object. Post to Ravelry. Wear with pride, style, and panache.
