Sedge/Sara Mittens
Materials needed
Two skeins sport/DK weight yarn. One of each colour, appr. 130m each 2,5mm dpns or size to match gauge Waste yarn, darning needle to weave ends in Gauge: 20 stitches and 30 rows / 10cm in double stockinette
Right mitten
Tubular cast on 42 pairs of stitches. Divide to dpns and start working in the round. Knit double stockinette for 4 rows as established. After that start the cuff chart. Cuff chart is worked twice over the cuff stitches. Repeat the chart as many times as necessary. Pictured mittens have 6,5 cm long cuffs. Start the mitten chart. When you have increased 12 stitches for thumb gusset, you can move thumb stitches to a waste yarn and replace moved stitches with 2 loop increases. In the end of the chart you can keep knitting until the mitten is long enough. You should cover the tip of your forefinger. Mittens in the picture measured 22,5 cm from the cast on edge.
Top decreases
1st decrease row \*work 2 pairs of stitches, then make 2 tog. Repeate from \* until the end ofrow. Work 4 more double stockinette rows. 2nd decrease row \*work 1st pair of stitches, then make 2 tog. Repeate from \* until the end of row. Work 2 more double stockinette rows. 3rd decrease row: 2 tog throughout the row Work 1 more double stockinette row. Cut yarns and pull those through the remaining stitches.
Thumb
Pick 6 pairs of stitches from the thumb opening cast-on edge. Add these to the stitches on waste yarn. Makes 18 pairs of stitches. Work for 17 rows of thumb chart. Then repeat 2nd decrease row from top decreases. Work 2 more double stockinette rows and then finally 3rd decrease row. Cut both yarns and pull those through the remaining stitches.
Left mitten
You can reverse the colours or mirror the charts (read chart from left to right) to make a left hand mitten.
