Plaited Cable Scarf

Malabrigo Silky Merino yarn [50% Baby Merino Wool; 50% Silk 150 yd / 50g hank | color: Pradera; 4 hanks Alternate yarns: Madelinetosh Pashmina Worsted, Madelinetosh DK Yarn, Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage

1 set of US7 / 4.50mm straight or circular needles Cable needle Tapestry needle GAUGE: Not important
PATTERNNOTES
cO = cast on cn=cableneedle lhn =left hand needle rhn =right hand needle k = Knit p = Purl C16F\* = Cable 16 Front: Slip next 8 sts onto a cn and hold in front of work, then slip the next 8 sts onto the rhn. Place the sts on the cn back on the Ihn, then place the 8 sts slipped to the rhn back on the Ihn. Knit the 16 sts. C16B\* = Cable 16 Back: Slip next 8 sts onto a cn and hold in back of work, then slip the next 8 sts onto the rhn. Place the sts on the cn back on the Ihn, then place the 8 sts slipped to the rhn back on the Ihn. Knit the 16 sts. \* = Slip all sts as if to purl.


SCARF PATTERN
Using the long tail cast on method, CO 40 sts onto a Us7 (4.5mm) needle; circular or straights are your choice.
Seed Stitch Border
Row 1: \*K1, p1; repeat from \* to end of row. Row 2: \*P1, k1; repeat from \* to end of row. Work rows 1 and 2 three (3) more times. Work Rows 1-20 of the Short Plait Cable pattern five (5) times, or as many times as desired, following either the chart or the written instructions below. Charts are worked beginning at the bottom right corner; right side rows are worked right to left, and wrong side rows are worked left to right. The number of repeats you decide to work = I set.
Short Plait Cable Pattern
1: (K1, p1) 4 times,k24, (k1, p1) 4 times 2: (P1,k1) 4 times, p24,( p1, k1) 4 times 3-8: Repeat first two rows 3 times. 9: (K1,p1) 4 times, C16F,k8,(k1,p1) 4 times 10: Repeat row 2 11-18: Repeat first 2 rows 4 times 19: (k1, p1) 4 times, k8, C16B, (k1, p1) 4 times 20: Repeat row 2 When you are ready to transition to the long plait cable pattern, end the short plait cable pattern on row 10.

Work Rows 1-32 of Long Plait Cable pattern five (5) times, or as many times as desired, following either the chart or the written instructions below.
Charts are worked beginning at the bottom right corner; right side rows are worked right to left, and wrong side rows are worked left to right. The number of repeats you decide to work = I set.
Long Plait Cable Pattern
1: (K1, p1) 4 times, k24, (k1, p1) 4 times 2: (P1, k1) 4 times, p24,( p1, k1) 4 times 3\~14: Repeat first two rows 6 times. 15: (K1,p1) 4 times, k8, C16B, (k1, p1) 4 times 16: Repeat row 2 17-30: Repeat first 2 rows 7 times 31: (k1, p1) 4 times, C16F, k8,(k1, p1) 4 times 32: Repeat row 2 When you are ready to transition back to the short plait cable pattern, end the long plait cable pattern on row 16. Repeat the pattern sets a second time. Work one more set of the short plait cable pattern, ending the set on row 8. Complete the scarf body by working the Seed Stitch Border. BO loosely in pattern.
Finishing
With a tapestry needle, weave in all loose ends. Steam block to open the plaits. Enjoy!
