To add the optional pockets make a pocket plan: 1 - Pull out as many of the actual items as possible that you want to store in the pockets to develop the items list. It is important to have as much detail as possible , because you need to know what size pockets to make before you start making pockets. 2 - sort items by size. Smallest to biggest. As It just helps to have smaller items one end of list. 4 - we need pic or drawing of each Unique size item if possible so either draw them manually or take pic with digital camera. (The low tech manual method will be in brackets. ) 5 - Add item data to list. The list can be kept on paper or electronically as text file or word doc or excel file. Item # & Length & width & height & qty & name 1 - Glasses - 2 x6 x 1 - qty 2 2 - Pen - 1/2 x 1/2 x 4 - qty 5 For each item. A - add name and number to the list B - measure the size of item C - count qty and estimate future possible max quantity. D - (put the item on a piece of paper & draw around with pencil or pen. Write on the inside of the image the name and number on front. ) E - (Cut or tear picture out of paper. The cut size can be bigger than size of the drawing. ) F - (write dimensions and quantity of the item on the back. ) G - ADD dimensions and qty to the list. H - take picture of actual items and / or drawing of the item with phone or digital camera so they can be imported as pic or PDF to be used in word doc or graphic software. Or use and copy to computer. I - if items longest side is less than 3 inches then add to short pocket list. Add ( 2 smallest dimensions of item ) times item quantity to short pocket total. J - if longest side is more than 3 inches but less than 6 inches add to medium pocket list. Add ( 2 smallest dimensions ) times quantity to medium pocket total. K - if longest side is more than 6 inches then add to bottom pocket list. Add ( 2 smallest dimensions ) times quantity to bottom pocket total. 6 - number of short pockets. = short pocket total divided by 8 7 - number of medium pockets = medium pocket total divided by 8 8 - Number of bottom pockets = bottom pocket total divided by 8 9 - Draw and cut templates same size as pockets out of paper. 10 - Lay pocket templates out in order where they will be placed on final item. 11 - Then for each pocket , label a thru z from top to bottom and right to left. 12 - Arrange item drawing or actual items in pockets. Until you have a good final plan. Smaller items in smaller pockets and near the top. And larger items in bigger ones and those at bottom. 13 - Pin them in place and/ or take pic. 18 = sew pockets on to front or back of skirt. with top end open. And add dividing Seams to make the pocket sizes per plan. 20 = baste divider seams in pockets with different color thread and try putting actual items in eac pocket. And adjust the Seam location if necessary. 21 = sew divider seams with same color as yarn and remove basting. 22 = add safety pins to attach small items Sizes estimates for items 1 inch for crochet hooks or knit needles or pens 2 inch for brushes and combs 3 inch tv remotes or shampoo bottle 5 inch toilet paper roll Pocket BOTTOM Use same yarn as body and same hook Row 1 - Ch 21 and 20 sc Row 2 to row 8 - Cht and 20 sc (4 inch high ) Finish off Pocket MIDDLE Use same yarn as body and same hook Row 1 - Ch 21 and 20 sc Row 2 to row 6 - Cht and 20 sc 3 inch high Finish off Pocket TOP Use same yarn as body and same hook Row 1 - Ch 21 and 20 sc Row 2 to row 4 - Cht and 20 sc ( 2 inch high) (Can adjust pocket height by changing number of rows. ) Finish off Arrange BOTTOM pockets on bottom And MIDDLE pockets in middle And TOP pockets on top Pocket are 8 inch wide.
