Hat in Slipped Stitch Ribbing for a Lady

Finished Measurements:
Hat Circumference: to fit a lady with head circumference of 21"-23' Hat Depth: 8"-8.25'
Materials:
\* 1 ball of Lion Brand Vanna's Choice 100% acrylic yarn in Cranberry (180) or any other medium worsted yarn #4 (10ply) \* U.S. #9 (5.5mm) circular needles (16" long) \* U.S. #9 double pointed needles (a set of 4 or 5) to shape the crown \* U.S. #7 (4.5mm) circular needles (16" long) for the ribbing only \* a marker \* a tapestry needle Gauge: 4 sts per 1" in stockinette stitch
Instructions:
With smaller needles, cast on 80 sts. Place marker and join in circle carefully making sure not to twist sts. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1.5" slipping marker at the beg of every round. Handknitsbyelena Change to bigger needles and cont work in Slipped Stitch Ribbing as follows: (Multiple of 4) Round 1: \* k1, p1, yo, slip 1 st purlwise with yarn in back, p1; rep from \* to end of round. Round 2: \* k1, p1, slip the yo st and the next st purlwise with yarn in back, p1; rep from \* to end of round. Round 3: \* k1, p1, knit together the yarn over st and the slipped st, p1; rep from \* to end of round. Rep Rounds 1-3 until hat measures 6.5"-6.75" from the cast on edge ending with Round 3. Next Round: work in k1, p1 ribbing. Then, beg decreases for the top of the hat as described below and change to double-pointed needles when necessary: Round 1: \* skp; rep from \* to end of round. Round 2: knit all sts. Round 3: knit all sts. Round 4: knit all sts. Round 5: \* skp; rep from \* to end of round. Round 6: knit all sts. Round 7: knit all sts. Round 8: \* skp; rep from \* to end of round. Round 9: \* skp; rep from \* to end of round. Cut yarn, leaving a 8"-10" tail. With a tapestry needle, pull the tail through remaining sts and secure. Hide loose ends.
