Instructions

Notes: · Carry strands up the inside when you can for fewer strands to weave in at the end · Change colours one half-step prior to the next rnd for a smoother transition · Insert hook through both loops unless otherwise stated · If you choose to line your hat with fleece, make your hat a size bigger than you need and measure the fleece around your head and not against the hat

Stitches:

Cluster: YO, insert hook in next st, YO, pull up loop (3 loops on hook), YO, pull through 1 loop on hook, (insert hook into same st, YO, pull up loop, YO, pull through 1 loop on hook) twice (5 loops on hook), YO, pull through all 5 loops. Decrease Stitch: work dc in next st as per normal ending before last step (2 loops on hook), YO, insert hook in next st, YO, pull up loop (4 loops on hook), YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through all 3 loops. 1 st decreased. Beginning at the bottom with MC, ch 54 (60, 66) sts. Sl st into the first st being careful not to twist sts. Pm for beg of rnd. Rnd 1: Ch 2. With MC, work 1 sc in each ch around. Dec Rnds:

Rnd 11: With MC, ch 3. \*Work 4 dcs in next 4 sts. Work 1 dec over next two sts (see Stitches)\*. Rep from \* to \* to end of rnd. Sl st into first ch 3. Rnd 12 (and all even rnds): Ch 2. Work sc in each st around. Sl st into first ch 2. Note: For small size - or to make the hat slightly less deep - omit the sc rows and work only the odd numbered dec rnds. Rnd 13: Ch 3. \*Work 3 dcs in next 3 sts. Work 1 dec over next two sts\*. Rep from \* to \* to end of rnd. Sl st into first ch 3. Rnd 15: Ch 3. \*Work 2 dcs in next 2 sts. Work 1 dec over next two sts\*. Rep from \* to \* to end of rnd. Sl st into first ch 3. Rnd 17: Ch 3. \*Work 1 dc in next st. Work 1 dec over next two sts\*. Rep from \* to \* to end of rnd. Sl st into first ch 3. Omit the sc rnds for all sizes from now on. Rnd 19: Do not ch 3. Work dec over every 2 sts until hat is closed up. Cut yarn and weave through last st.

Brim:

Holding yarn double-stranded (MC), \*work sc in next 3 sts, sk 1 st\*, rep from \* to \* to end. (This won't work out evenly for all sizes so just sc in each st to end if you've run out of sts to complete the rep.) Sl st into first ch. Weave in all ends.
