Zoom Loom Fingerless Mitts

If you've made dozens of zoom loom squares and don't know what to do with them, here is a simple and quick way to put them to good use: make fingerless hand warmers! I have small hands, so two squares fit them perfectly. For larger hands, you can knit or crochet along one edge for as many rows as needed, to increase the width of the square. The squares barely cover the wrist, so I added a 2x2 ribbed cuff.
Materials:
Four zoom loomed squares Tapestryneedle About 50 yards of worsted weight yarn 4.5 mm DPNs or two 16" circulars, for knitting in the round

On the right side of the mitt, join two squares for about 3/4 of an inch, going down toward the thumb opening. | |
Weave along one of the squares, down the right side of the mitt, skipping the thumb opening, until you reach the bottom of the mitt. Then join the two squares together. I angled the squares just slightly, so they would fit more comfortably around the wrist. Weaveinbothends. |
To reinforce the joined squares at each corner and thumb opening, you can whip-stitch several times over the same spot. This strengthens the join at the points that will probably get stretched out the most.
Knitted Cuff
Use your favorite method for knitting in the round.I used two needles here. From each square, pick up 16 stitches along the edges, s0 you will have a total of 32 stitches. |

Row 1 Starting at either side of mitt. Pick up 36 stitches, if using two needles, each will have 16 stitches. Row 2 Join to knit in the round. Knit 2 and purl 2, repeat until the end of the row. Row 3 & 4 Repeat row 2 Row 5 Decrease round by decreasing at the edges. Knit two stitches together through the back loop, (p2, k2) 3 times, purl two together, knit two through the back loop, (p2, k2) 3 times, purl two together. You should now have 28 stitches. Row 6 K1, (p2, k2) 3 times, P1, K1, (p2, k2) 3 times, P1. Row 7 & 8 Repeat row 6. You can add more rows if you want a longer cuff. Otherwise, bind off loosely, and weave in both ends. Repeat for fingerless mitt #2, and enjoy!!
