Abbrevations and technical commer
K = knit, p = purl, st = stitch. Sl 1 = slip 1 stitch. K2tog = Knit 2 sts together. Inc 1 = increase 1 stitch: Lift the strand between the 2 sts on to the left needle. Knit it through back loop. 1 ridge = 2 rows in garter st. w&t = wrap and turn: Just before turning lift first st on left needle to the right needle. Bring the yarn forward, then put the st back on the left needle again. Turn and work (back). When you later get to the wrapped stitch, knit together the st and the wrap that's lying at its base. This makes an almost invisible turning point.
Knit Stegosaurus like this:
Cast on 300 sts. Knit 150 sts and place a marker here to mark the center. K2, wt, k4, w&t. Continue like this on all rows: Knit until you get to the wrapped sts and work that one as described above. K3, p&w. Each turn is 4 sts past the previous one, making the rows longer and longer for every turn. At the same time: Along the way there are 3 increase rows. The first increase row is after 8 ridges (count at the center, by the marker). You increase by 14 sts like this: k2, inc 1, \* k4, inc 1 \* Repeat and end with k2. The second increase row is 10 ridges after the first (18 ridges from the cast-on edge). This time you increase by 40 sts. work like the first increase row but make an extra inc around the center by working to 1 sts before the marker, inc 1, k1, marker, k1, inc 1, k3, Continue this row with 4 sts between increases like usual. The third increase row is 10 ridges after the secone (28 ridges from cast-of, counted from the center.). Increase this time by 68 sts. Work like the first increase row. Continue working until all sts on the cast-on edge is used. You now have 422 sts. End with a wrong side row.
The points (entrelac edge):
Change yarns now if the points of the entrelac edging is to be worked in a different yarn or colour. First you make a row of entrelac triangles: 34 smalltriangles from 4 sts each, 30 bigger ones Using 5 sts each and finally 34 smaller ones again. Right side facing.: kl, turn. Wrong side: \* kl, turn, rs: k2, turn, ws: k2, turn, rs: k3, turn, ws: k3, turn, rs: k4, turn, ws: k4, turn, rs: k2, inc 1, k3, turn. \* This makes 1 triangle. Repeat between \*'s. After 34 small triangles, work 30 larger triangles: ws: \* kl, turn, rs: k2, turn,

ws: k2, turn, rs: k3, turn, ws: k3, turn, rs: k4, turn, ws: k4, turn, rs, k5, turn, ws:k5,turn rs: k3, inc 1, k3, turn. \* Repeat between \*'s for 30 triangles, then make 34 smaller ones. End the last triangle like this: rs: k4 instead of k2, inc 1, k3. Turn and cast off 4 sts, and keep the last sts on the needle (don't break yarn). Now a row of entrelac squares: With wrong side facing pick up and purl 4 sts along the edge of the last triangle. (only pick Up and purl 3 sts in the first, as there's already 1 sts on the needle.). Turn, k4. Next row (ws:)kl, inc 1, k1, inc 1, k2tog through back loops. Turn. Next row (rs): sl 1, k5. Next row: k5, k2tog through back loops. Turn. Repeat the 2 last rows untill all sts has been uses (knitted together). Work the following squares the same way. When you get to the larger triangles you have to make larger squares too. Just pick up and purl 5 sts instead of 4, and work the larger sqaures after same principles af the smaller ones, with 2 increases in the following ws row. Change back to smaller squares again when you reach the smaller triangles. Finish by casting off from the right side: Cast off 6 sts. Pick up and knit 5 sts along the other side of the square, cast them off right away as you go. At the larger squares: Cast off 7 sts, pick up, knit and cast off 6 sts. Continue like this untill all sts are cast off. Secure yarn ends, wash with care and lay flat to dry. Do not block or press the Stegosaurus.
