Blogger's Xmas hat
Sherlock Holmes would be lost without his blogger, and the blogger would be lost without his warm and cosy hat! Add a touch of Sherlockian seasonal cheer to your winter outfits with this colourful Xmas beanie. Coordinates with my Blogger's Xmas mittens for added style (and warmth). The hat is knitted entirely in the round, starting with a 2x2 rib band and continuing with simple stranded/fair isle techniques. Size: One size fits most (head circumference 50-58 cm approx.). 20 cm long from bottom edge to tip of crown. Size can be adjusted widthwise by adding/subtracting multiples of 6 sts. Materials: 0.5 skein in Navy, 0.5 skein in White, 0.5 skein in Red - any 8-ply wool will do, though I used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK; 3.5 mm 40 cm long circular needle; a set of 4 3.5 mm dpns. Tension: 22 sts = 10 cm in St st Abbreviations: CO - cast on; K - knit, P - purl, pm - place marker, K2tog - knit 2 sts together.
Directions:
CO 108 sts with the circular needle. Rds 1-8: (K2, P2) all around Rds 9-16: (P2, K2) all round Rd 17: Switch to St st and start working Row 1 of Chart (18 repeats of 6-st motif) Work rows 2-15 of Chart Crown shaping: make sure you switch to dpns when needed. With every decrease you should be losing 18 sts all round. of Chart (decrease row): K4, (K2tog, K4) 17 times, K2tog (90 sts rem) Work rows 17-21 of Chart Row 22 of Chart (decrease row): K4, (K2tog, K3) 17 times, K2tog (72 sts rem) Work rows 23-30 of Chart Row 31 of Chart (decrease row): K1, (K2, K2tog) 17 times, K2tog (54 sts rem) Work rows 32-33 of Chart Row 34 of Chart (decrease row): (K2tog, K1) all round (36 sts rem) Work rows 35, 36 of Chart Row 37 of Chart (decrease row): K2 tog in White all rd (18 sts rem) Row 38 of Chart - K all sts in White. Cut a longish tail on the white yarn, thread through rem 18 live sts, pull tight to close. Weave in all ends. Have a nice cup of tea. Happy Xmas blogging!
