Jenni Shawl

Pattern by: Rilana Riley-Munson
This little ruffled shawl was inspired by a fellow knit-blogger, named Jenni, who saw a similar shawl at Sak's Fifth Avenue. It was a cashmere shawl that cost more than any sane person would be willing to spend on a shawl, at least in my world. So, I created a sort of "knockoff." I will add some notes to this pattern, for customizing. You can make it longer, wider and also make the ruffles as long or short as you'd like. It's totally up to you. Yarn: 2 skeins of Caron Simply Soft. I used "soft pink." 660 yards for the shawl shown. Needles: US # 8 circular needle, as long as you can find. Beginning Notes: -l used almost all of the 2 skeins of Caron Simply Soft. If you plan to make the shawl longer or wider add an extra skein. Any worsted weight yarn will do for this shawl. -I used my Denise interchangeable needles to make a really long circular needle. I connected two of the long cables. If you don't have those types of needles, I know Addi Turbo has some long needles available. -Even though this shawl is easy to knit. You should know how to Pick Up stitches along the edges. Kf&b (knit into the front and the back of a stitch) Also the M1 increase (lifting the bar between stitches and knitting into the back of it). Otherwise this shawl is mostly Stockinette stitch and great for TV watching. Mindless and fairly easy to keep up with.

(2 sts increased) Row4: Purl across -Repeat rows 1-4 until desired width and length. (all wrong side rows are purled) Note: I increased with the 4 rows until I had 220 stitches on the circular needle. You can add more stitches for a larger shawl, by continuing the increase rows. -BO all stitches.
The Ruffle(s)
-Take a long circular needle and pick up stitches along one side of the triangle. The number of stitches picked up really doesn't matter. -Pick up and knit stitches along the edge from point to point. -Purl across all stitches. -Next: Kf&b into each stitch across the row. -Purl across -Knit across -Purl across -Knit across -Purl across Note: to make the ruffle longer than mine, you can continue in Stockinette stitch until the ruffle is the desired length from here. -Next: K1, P1 across all stitches -BO all sts. -Repeat the ruffle section for all three sides. -Block the shawl if you'd like. (mine has not been blocked) If you have any problems or questions, feel free to email me at: rilana@gmail.com This pattern is free for personal use only.
