Giraffe Applique

Skill Level: Intermediate Materials: Less than 1 gram of each M and C Hook 4ply/fine crochet cotton and size 2.25mm/B1 crochet needle or 3ply/superfine crochet cotton and size 2.00mm /size 4 steel hook
Finished Size:
Using 4 ply/ Fingering cotton and Hook size B1 the Giraffe should be approx 11 cm / 4 inches high (including legs)

Pattern Notes
When working row that uses 2 colors, carry unused color across row, working over color not in use or carry the unused colors along the wrong side of the work. Be sure to carry it along loosely enough so that thework doesnot pucker:

When ready to change to a different color, pull up the first loop for a single crochet in the old color, then, pull the new color through the last two loops to complete that single crochet. Continue in the new color, following the pattern. Change colors in this manner, whenever indicated onthe pattern.

Fasten off. Tail 5ch, make3 loops round finger, work 1sc around loops, Fasten off. Sew Tail to body, embroider eye and block legs. An alternative to crocheting legs if applique is to be attached to garment is to Fasten offat \*\*\*\* and using chain st embroider legs and tail on garment. DIRECTIONSFORSTITCHES
slst - slip stitch
Insert the hook from the front, under the two top threads of the stitch next to the hook, yarn over and draw it through the stitch AND the loop on the hook in one movement.
Sc - Single crochet
insert the hook into next stitch,yarn over hook,draw it through the chain, there are now two loops on the hook. Yarn over hook draw through the two loops, one loop will remain on the hook. One single crochet (sc) now completed.
Hdc - Half double crochet
Yarn over hook, insert hook into next stitch,yarn over, and draw loop through stitch. There are now three loops on the hook, yarn over , and draw it through all three loops, one loop will remain on the hook. One half double crochet (1hdc) completed
Dc - Double Crochet
Yarn over hook, insert hook in to next stitch, yarn over,and draw loop through stitch. There are now three loops on the hook, yarn over , and draw it through two loops, two loop will remain on the hook, yarn over hook . Draw through remain 2 loops,one loop left on hook. One double crochet (1dc) completed . twice, then insert hook into next stitch.
