Christmas Knitting Basket Ing-credible Threads Designs
A pretty little hand knit ornament for your tree
Materials:
Needles: Size 6, 40" circular for magic loop or dpn's Small amounts of worsted wt yarn in your choice of holiday colors (Cherub Aran Sparkle in white and Encore red glitter were used in sample pictured) and small amounts of any yarns to make the yarn balls.
Pattern Notes:
Basket is started by knitting a small piece back and forth then sts are picked up around the edges and the rest of basket is knitted in the round. Provisional cast on is used to make it easier to pick up sts but it is not necessary to use this technique, you can just cast on as usual and pick up along the edge as instructed.
Pattern:
Using provisional cast on, cast on 17 sts and work seed st for 5 rows Next, pick up and knit 4 sts along first edge, work seed st along 17 cast on sts and pick up and knit 3 sts on second edge (41 sts). Visit "ingsknits" on Ravelry for more info on patternifneeded Join to knit in round, marking the beginning of round (BOR) Work in seed st for 5 rounds (you may have a knit on top of a knit on this row but just work in seed and the remaining rows willine up) Next rnd- k2tog, work seed st across next 17 sts, k2tog, p2tog, work seed st across next 16 sts, k2tog (37sts) Work 2 rounds Next rnd- k2tog, work seed st across next 15 sts, k2tog, p2tog, work seed across next 14 sts, k2tog (33 sts) Work 4 rounds Next rnd- p1, k1, bind off 12 sts, p2tog, k1, p1 and place the last 4 sts worked on waste yarn. These will be used to join the handle. Bind off 12 sts. There are 4 sts left which will be worked for the handle. Change color to work the handle now if desired. With RS facing, work seed st for about 5". Put sts on waste yarn back on needle and graft or sew ends together. Make small balls of yarn to put in basket-3 fit nicely. Embellish as desired with beads, see photo for ideas, paint toothpicks and add beads to ends for knitting needles. Happy Tree Trimming
