Mermaid's Scarf and Purse Set by Betty Knitter

An easy-to-knit set made entirely in garter stitch which is embellished with buttons and beads. Choose silky yarns in dreamy aquatic colours, and finish with pearly beads for a set that any mermaid would love to own. The scarf can be made in two lengths - long (approx 150cm) and medium (approx 100cm). You Will Need DK yarn - 50gr for scarf, 25gr for purse 4mm circular needle for scarf, 4mm straights for purse Beads, sequins and buttons for trimmings

Abbreviations

kknit st stitch inc increase by knitting into front and back of stitch rpt repeat yfwd yarn forward k2tog knit 2 stitches together dec decrease Scarf Using circular needle, cast on 300 sts for long version, or 200 sts for medium. Do not join ends. K 14 rows. Cast off. Cast on 50 sts Row 1 inc in 1st st, k to end of row Row 2 k Rpt rows 1 and 2 until there are 60 sts Buttonhole row - k3, yfwd, k2tog, k to end of row K 1 row Start decs - Row 1 k2tog, k to end of row Row 2 k Rpt these 2 rows until 50 sts, ending with dec row. Cast off. Making up Scarf Cut yarn into 15cm lengths. Thread through ends of scarf and knot into place to form fringe. Thread beads/sequins onto fringe and knot ends securely. Purse Fold to form envelope shape. Sew side seams. Sew button on securely. The finished purse can be decorated with beads, sequins and jewels. Either glue in place using Copydex or a suitable fabric adhesive, or stitch in place with sewing thread.
