Urban Mermaid

Mermaid fashions are big on the runways for Spring 2012 and this little day dress is right on target for the mergirl on the go. It is a flirty update on the traditional mermaid dress with its shorter length and stormy colors. Yarn: Fingering Weight, about 50 yards Needles: US1/2.25 mm DPNs Notions: 4 stitch markers are helpful, tapestry needle Gauge: 34 sts = 4" in stockinette stitch Abbreviations: CO - cast on k - knit ktbl - knit through the back loop kfb - knit through both the front and back loop to increase one knit stitch p - purl pfb - purl through both the front and back loop to increase one purl stitch p2tog - purl two together BO - bind off Pattern: CO 24 stitches and join to work in the round. Work in ktbl, p1 ribbing for 1.75". (Note: I like to twist the knit stitches.) (ktbl, pfb, ktbl, p) repeat 6x. Work in pattern (ktbl, p2, ktbl, p) for another 1.5". (ktbl, p2tog, ktbl, p) repeat 6x.
