Flame Wave Stitch Hot Water Bottle Cover Knitting Pattern with Detailed Instructions and Chart

FIamMa HOT WATEr BOTTLE COVER

The Flame Wave stitch pattern adds texture and visual warmth to a simple hot water bottle cover, while maintaining a single layer of fabric (unlike knitted covers adorned with cables), allowing heat to radiate evenly. Directions for Flame Wave pattern are given in chart form.

FINISHED SIZE

16"/40.5 cm diameter, to fit standard 2 liter hot water bottle (body approx 8"/20.5 cm wide and 11"/ 28 cm high, not including neck).

MATERIALS

Yarn Malabrigo Worsted, 100% merino wool, 210 yd (193 m)/3.5 oz (100 g) skein, #194 Cinnabar, 1 skein. Needles US size 8/5.0 mm: 20"/50 cm circular and set of double-pointed (dpn) OR extra circular (any length). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. Notions Markers, tapestry needle.

STItCH GUIDE

M1L: With left needle tip, lift strand between needles from front to back. Knit lifted loop through the back, twisting the created stitch. M1R: With left needle tip, lift strand between needles from back to front. Knit lifted loop through the front, twisting the created stitch.

GAUGE

Approx 20 sts/28 rows to 4"/10 cm in pattern st. Measure gauge on blocked swatch.

NOTE

To insert the water bottle into the cover, fold the empty bottle in half lengthwise.

Flame Wave chart

Move m 2 sts to the right to begin Rnds 29&57(NOT 3 sts).

DIRECTIONS

Using circular needle, CO 80 sts. Place m and join in the rnd. Body: \*Work Row 1 of Flame Wave chart 10 times to end of rnd. Cont patt as est until chart Rows 2-14 have been completed, stopping 2 sts before end of last rnd. Place m for new beg of rnd and work Row 15 of chart 10 times to end of rnd (remove old beg of rnd m). Cont patt as est until chart Rows 16-28 have been completed. Remove m, k2, place m for new beg of rnd\*\*. Rnds 29-56: Rep from \* to \*\*. Rnds 57-70: Use chart Rows 1-14 as above, EXCEPT work to end of last rnd and do not move m. Est ribbing: [K1, p2, k1] 10 times, place m for side, [K1, p2, k1] 10 times. Dec rnd: \*Ssk, work to 2 before m, k2tog\*\*; rep from \* to \*\*-4 sts dec'd, 76 sts remain. Rep Dec Rnd 7 times, changing to 2 circulars or dpn as needed—48 sts remain. Work in ribbing as est for 2.5"/6 cm, then bind off all sts LOOSELY in patt.

FINISHING

Sew bottom seam. Weave in ends. Block to finished measurements.
