Hopscotch socks

Cabled toe-up socks with gusset and short-row heel with heel flap. Materials: 1 skein Oxford Kitchen Yarns sock $[100\%$ British Bluefaced Leicester; $425\mathrm{m}$ (approx.) $/100\mathrm{g}]$ in raspberry. 1 set $2.5\mathrm{mm}/\mathrm{US}\,2$ double-pointed needles. Small cable needle (not required if working cables without cable needle). Yarn needle. Tension: 16 stitches/23 rows $=2$ inches (5cm) Chart A should be followed for the toe pattern in rounds 1-28. Chart B should be followed for the instep and front leg pattern. Chart C should be followed for the heel pattern. Chart D should be followed for the back leg pattern. Abbreviations: C2L: Cable 2 left - slip first two stitches on left needle to cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next stitch from left needle, knit two stitches from cable needle. C2R: Cable 2 right - slip first stitch on left needle to cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next two stitches from left needle, knit stitch from cable needle. T2L: Twist 2 left - slip first two stitches on left needle to cable needle and hold at front of work, purl next stitch on left needle, knit two stitches from cable needle. T2R: Twist 2 right - slip first stitch on left needle to cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next two stitches from left needle, purl stitch from cable needle. C4B: Cable 4 back - slip first two stitches from left needle onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next two stitches from left needle, knit two stitches from cable needle. YO: Yarn over - bring yarn over needle to create an extra stitch. SSK: Slip slip knit - slip next two stitches onto right needle as if to knit, insert point of left needle through both stitches and work together to make a left leaning decrease. K2tog: Knit 2 together - knit next two stitches together as if they were one stitch to create a right leaning decrease. M1: Make 1 - increase 1 stitch by knitting into the back of the horizontal loop of yarn between the stitch you have just knit and the next stitch.
Cast 16 stitches onto 2 needles (8on each)using Judy Becker's Magic Cast-on (see http://knitty.com/issuespring06/FEATmagiccaston.html). Toe (work from Chart A) Note: Chart A is worked over the top of the toe only, the bottom of the toe should be worked in stocking stitch. Rnd 1: Knit around (remember to knit into the back loop of the last seven stitches on needle 2 in order to untwist them). Arrange the stitches as foolws: needle one - 8 stitches (top of toe - row 1 of Chart A).; needles two & three - 4 stitches each (bottom of toe). Heel flap (work from Chart C) Row 1 [RS]: Slip first stitch, work row 1 of Chart C, ssk (slip final heel stitch and first gusset stitch and work together). (57 heel and gusset stitches) Row 2 [WS]: Slip first stitch, work next row of Chart C, P2tog (purl together final heel stitch and first gusset stitch). (56 heel and gusset stitches) Continue as set until all gusset stitches have been worked and you have reached the end of Chart C. (34 heel stitches - 68 stitches in total) Knit across needles two and three. Leg (work front leg from Chart B; work back leg from Chart D) Rnd 1: Work the row of Chart B following on from the row you noted down at the end of the gusset across needle one (front leg); knit across needles two and three (back leg). Repeat this round nineteen times. Rnd 21: Work next row of Chart B across needle one (front leg); work first row of Chart D across needles two and three (back leg). Rnd 22: Work next row of Chart B across needle one (front leg); work next row of Chart D across needles two and three (back leg) Repeat Rnd 22 until sock is desired length ending on row 8 or 18 or Chart B and row 2 or 4 of Chart D (pictured sock measures 6.5 inches from top of heel to this point).
Ribbing
$\ast\mathrm{K}1$ tbl, P1, repeat from \* to end of round. Repeat 19 times. Cut yarn leaving a long tail (about an arm’s length). Thread end of yarn through a yarn needle and cast off using sewn Kitchener bind off.
