Simple Slip-Stitch Scarf Pattern in Two Colours: A Beginner-Friendly Knitting Project with a Woven Texture

Pattern illustration

A simple slip-stitch scarf in two colours.

Pattern illustration

This scarf was originally made to replace a much loved woven one. So the pattern immitates a checkered pattern on it's right side. Even on the wrong side the pattern has a woven air to it. As it is based on garter stitch the scarf is really soft and warm. It's an easy project for beginners with just enough action going on not to bore advanced knitters.

Instructions: Cast on 55 stitches. Row 1: (MC) knit. Row 2: (MC) knit. Row 3: (CC) repeat \*knit 1, slip 1 with yarn behind stitch\* 27 times, knit 1. Row 4: (CC) repeat \*knit 1, slip 1 with yarn in front of stitch\* 27 times, knit 1. Repeat rows 1 to 4 until the scarf is long enough. Next 2 rows: (MC) knit. Bind of in MC.

Finishing:

Block to size: Soaking the scarf in lukewarm water before blocking is highly recommended. The scarf tends to grow a lot in length when wet and still a little when dry again (10cm).

Notes:

The scarf can be easily made longer or wider. Just be sure to start and stop in the main colour. As you always slip the same stitch on the same side, the pattern has a slight tendency to roll inwards before blocking. For the given size you need everything of the two MC balls and just a bit more than one of the CC.
