Lady Mary's London hat:

Can be worked as a Mobius or as a flat piece that then has a half twist and seam at the edges. Worsted weight yarn main color 112 yards, contrasting color 40 yards (20 yards held double) Sample is knit in Fibre Company Organik Materials needed size 6 37 inch or longer cable needle for Mobius part Size 8 circular or double points for main hat
Mobius Brim method:
Start with Mobius cast on of 80 sts onto the smaller long cable needles (k1,p1) entre round, when you get to the point where you are beginning to knit into the back of your first stitches, sneak in a 2tog or an increase of 1 so you are always knitting into a purl and purling into a knit. Work until you have 2 % to 3 inches of fabric. Change to contrasting color and knit (no more k1,p1) 80 sts and change to purl for the rest of the round. This will give you a right side and wrong side on the edge of the hat band. Bind off 84 sts in purl. P1, \*p1, slip both sts onto left needle, p2tog\*. This makes a flexible soft edge. After 84 stitches, you should be slightly past the beginning of the round. Flatten the Mobius so the cross over is between the needles, that extra few bound off stitches should wrap in front of the work.
Brim worked flat method:
Cast on 81 sts on the smaller needles. \*K1,P1\* rib entire row ending with the extra K1. Turn work and \*K1,P1\*K1 entire row, knit the purls and purl the knits. Continue until this piece measure 2 2/4 to 3 inches. Twist one half turn and join into a circle and seam the side edges. Needle should be facing the cast on edge. Change to contrasting color. Pick up 81 stitches along the cast on edge. You should be back to the live stitches at this point. Knit these stitches in the contrasting color. Bind off 84 sts in purl. P1, \*p1, slip both sts onto left needle, p2tog\*. This makes a edge. After 84 stitches, you should be slightly past the beginning of the round. Flatten the Mobius so the cross over is between the needles, that extra few bound off stitches should wrap in front of the work.
Main body of the hat, both methods:
Change to larger needles and knit a round, closing the gap over the cross over. Change back to main color and knit a round. Directly over the gap, do a double decrease (slip 1, k2tog, psso). Knit a round. Do another decrease directly on top of the first decrease. Count the stitches on your needles. You should have 72-74, depending on what you did at the beginning. Knit a round If needed, do another double decrease, or an ssk to bring the stitch count to 72. Knit in the round until the piece measure 7 inches. Decrease for crown of hat as follows: \*K6, K2tog\* entire round. Knit one round. \*K5,K2tog\* entire round, knit one round. \*K4,K2tog\* entire round. Knit one round, \*K3,K2tog\* entire round, knit a round. \*K2,K2tog\* entire round, knit a round, \*K1,K2tog\* entire round, \*K2tog\* entire round. Draw tail through remaining stitches and wind in ends. Have a biscuit and watch your favorite PBS drama.
