Instructions Note: Entire blanket is knit with two strands of each color held tog. Using Main color and size 11 circular needle, CO 100 sts loosely using your favorite method. 1 prefer a cable cast on. Work 10 rows Stockinette Stitch Begin knitting 8 stitches before and 7 stitches after each row of the chart\* in St st as follows: Row 1: K7, work chart, K8 Row 2: P8, work chart, P7... Continue until chart is finished \*Read charts beginning at the bottom right corner. Row 1 and odd rows are read right to left. Row 2 and even rows are read left to right. Each square represents one stitch. After chart is completed, continue St st in MC for 10 rows. BO loosely. Weave in ends on WS.
I-cord border:
With RS facing, begin border (choose any color) anywhere on the blanket except directly on a corner (this helps the seam remain virtually invisible).
I understand this sounds complicated. Here is a yideo tutorial to make this method clear. 1. With RS of blanket facing, Use size 10 circular needle, pickup every half stitch (one side of the "V" of a knit stitch) along the outside edge of the blanket. Pickup as many stitches as wish, 30 at a time is a good number starting anywhere on the outside edge of the blanket except a corner. Set aside. 2. Using yarn color of your choice (2 strands held together) and 2 DPN needles use invisible cast on (or a method of your choice) to cast on 4 stitches. 3. Turn work around and Knit these 3 stitches as done for a basic I-cord. One stitch remains on needle. 4. Using your circular needle with the picked-up stitches as your left needle, slip the unknitted first stitch from the DPN to the circular needle. 5. Then do a SSK as follows: slip the un-knitted stitch from left circular needle to DPN knitwise, slip stitch from left needle purlwise, then on DPN knit slipped stitches together. 6. Slip all 4 -cord stitches onto the left circular needle, then knit 3 stitches as you did in the beginning for an -cord. Then do the SSK as before. Repeat this step until border is complete, picking up more stitches with the opposite end of the circular needle as needed. 7. Bind off I-cord border, leaving a long tail. Join to beginning of border with Kitchener Stitch.
