COLLEGE PARK COWL
This is a very easy cowl pattern that I have made twice. It is a good pattern for beginning knitters who want to learn how to knit in the round.

For the ecru version: MATERIALS: 3.5 balls Debbie Bliss Cathay, D.K weight, 50% cotton, 35% viscose microfiber, 15% silk and a 36" circular needle, US #4, pattern markers. GAUGE: 5 stitches = 1 inch. DIMENSIONS: 7 inches X 56 inches in circumference. For the turquoise version: MATERIALS: 3 balls of Classic Elite Wool Bam Boo, D.K weight, 50% wool and 50% bamboo viscose, a 36" circular needle, US size #6, pattern markers. GAUGE: 5 stitches = 1 inch. DIMENSIONS: 8 inches X 56 inches in circumference. You could make this cowl larger or smaller as long as you cast on any multiple of 11. You must be careful not to twist the stiches if you want to make a flat version. If you twist the stitches once, you make a Mobius strip, which also works with this cowl. Other weights of yarn could be used but I would recommend something solid and fairly smooth to enhance the geometry of the pattern. I recommend using markers on the beginning rounds. This is not because the pattern is difficult, but that it helps keep track of the large number of stitches.
DIRECTIONS:
Cast on desired number of stitches, multiples of 11. I cast on 275 stitches for the ecru version and 264 stitches for the turquoise version. Rounds 1 through 9. Purl 3, Knit 8. Rounds 10 through 18.
