Gauge: 2.5 stitches/ inch Yarn: Knit Picks Peruvian Highland Wool Bulky (\*Bellini dyed by amykatie creations--amyclare on ravelry) Needles: 11US (13US for bind off) Size:0-3mo Skill: Confident Beginner I typically feel that gauge is pretty unimportant when making baby clothes. My philosophy is that eventually they'll be able to wear it (maybe this is because I'm such a loose knitter). Lo is in honor of my friend's third baby. I remember very clearly in college she said she wanted to have “"lots" of babies and be a stay at home mom. I sort of feel that third children have it a little harder than the first or second. Parents know that after the third, kids are pretty indestructible. The youngest is struggling to be heard and yet, will always be the baby. This is a very simple sweater that can be knit up in an hour or two, and ready for that baby shower in the afternoon. Stitches and terms you need to know: K: Knit P:Purl YO: Yarn Over PU: Pick up stitches and knit CO: Cast On BO: Bind Off PM: Place Marker Stockinette stitch: Knit one row, purl one row; (in-the-round) knit Garter stitch: (flat) knit all rows; (in-the-round) knit one row, purl one row DPN: Double Pointed Needle

Supplies:

4 stitch markers One 1" button (7/8" may also be used) On each row I slipped the first stitch to make them easy to pick- up for knitting the collar and front of the sweater.

CO 20 stitches

Row 1 (RS): K2, PM, K4, PM, K8, PM, K4, PM, K2 Row 2 (and all even rows): Purl Row 3 (and all remaining increase rows- odd): Knit until one stitch before stitch marker, yo, k1, pm, k1, yo. Increase to 76 stitches, ending on a right side row.

Divide for the sleeves:

Knit to the first marker, remove marker and slip all stitches between the two markers and place on to a waste yarn. Knit across the back stitches until you get to your next stitch marker. Repeat for the next sleeve. Knit to the end of row. You should no longer have any stitch markers, and there should be 18 stitches on your waste yarn for each sleeve. (I like to knit the sleeves after I've knit the body.)

Body:

Knit in stockinette for three inches, joining under the arms, ending on a wrong side. Knit in garter stitch for 4 rows; BO loosely (I used a larger needle)

Collar and Sweater Front:

Pick- up and knit 54 stitches; this creates the collar and lapel area of the sweater. Knit (garter stitch) 3 rows, placing a button hole (yo) near the center of the lapel. Knit 2 more rows; BO loosely.

Sleeves:

Using the magic loop method or DPNs, place the 18 held stitches onto the needles, pick- up and knit two additional stitches. (You should now have 20 stitches). Continue to knit in garter stitch, until desired length; I knit 8 rounds for a short sleeved sweater. Of course, BO, and repeat for the second sleeve. Weave in all your little ends, sew on a button and you're ready! \*I often use Knittinghelp.com when learning new stitches or terms.
