Free Knitting Pattern for Earmuffs and Hat with Detachable Ears by a French Designer

with 5mm needles 16stiches = 10cm (4") Sizes : S, (M ; L) Circumference : 48cm (52cm ; 56cm) 19" (20" ; 22") Abreviations: inc : increase k2tog : knit 2 stiches together (decrease) K :knit p : purl

I'm french and I tryed to translate my pattern in english. Please let me know if you find some mistakes (or if my english is too bad ^\~)

Earmuffs (make 2) :

Begin by knitting the“strands" Cast on 3 sts. Continue in stockinette until the strand is approx 2ocm (8") Then : R1. (right side) inc1 at the beginning and at the end of the row → 5sts R2. (wrong side) purl Repeat this 2rows until you have 23sts on the needle. End with a wrong side row. Don't fasten off.

The hat:

Cast on 6 (8 ; 10) sts. Knit the 23sts of one earmuff. Cast on 19 (20 ; 23) sts. Knit the 23sts of the Other earmuff. Then Cast on 6 (8 ; 1o) sts. So you must have 77 (81 ; 89) sts on your needle. Continue in stockinette until the piece is 13cm (14Cm ; 15cm) (or 5" (5,5" ; 6") without earmuffs. End with a right side row. Next row : purl and decrease 5sts (1 ; 1) in the row → 72sts (80 ; 88) Decreases : R1 (RS) : \* k6, k2tog \* repeat until the end of the row → 63sts (70 ; 77) R2 and all wrong side rows : purl R3 : \* k5, K2t0g \* → 54sts (60 ; 66) R5 : \* K4,K2t0g \* → 45StS (50 ; 55) R7 : \* K3, K2t0g \* → 36StS (40 ; 44) R9 : \* K2, K2t0g \* → 27sts (30 ; 33) R11 :\* K1, K2t0g \* → 18sts (20 ; 22) R13 :\* K2t0g \*→ 9stS (10 ; 11) R15 : \* k2tog \*. Sizes S and L : K the last st. → 5sts (5 ; 6) Fasten off and leave a long tail. Pass the thread through remaining sts, pull and knot. Then sew theback of thehat.

Ears (make 2) :

Back (colour you used for the hat): Caston15sts. Make 4 rows in stockinette. R5. Decrease ists on the beginning and on the end of the row R6. Purl Repeat this 2 rows until you have just ist on the needle. FO. Front(othercolour): Caston12sts. Make 4 rows in stockinette. R5. Decrease ists on the beginning and on the end of the row R6. Purl Repeat this 2 rows until you have just 1st on the needle. FO.

Pattern illustration

Sew together back and front ears. Pin it on the hat and sew it in place. If you prefer you can stuff ears lightly.
