Pattern illustration

This pattern is for the stocking hat pictured above in newborn size.

Materials:

Size K/6.5 MMhook Bulky Yarn (pictured is Loops & Thread Charisma in Ocean Tide) Tapestry Needle Gauge: 5DC = 2 inch

Legend:

SC - Single Crochet DC - Double Crochet SL ST - Slip Stitch ST(s) - Stitch(s) CH - Chain BLO - Back loops only

Pattern Notes:

CH 2 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. Techniques: You will need to know how to create a pompom to sew onto the end of the hat as well as how to crochet in the back loops only. YouTube has many great videos as tutorials for these techniques.

Pattern:

Round 1: Magic Ring with 5 SC, SL ST to first SC to join. (5) Round 2: CH 2 (working BLO-back loops only) DC in each ST around, SL ST to first DC to join. (5) Round 3-20: CH 2, (working in both loops again) DC in each ST around, SL ST to first DC to join. Continue this round until your 'tail' reaches the desired length. (5) Round 21: CH 2, 2 DC in same ST as CH 2, 2 DC in each ST around, SL ST to first DC to join. (10) Round 22: CH 2, 2 DC in same ST as CH 2, 2 DC in each ST around, SL ST to first DC to join. (20) Round 23: CH 2, 2 DC in same ST as CH 2, \*1 DC in next ST, 2 DC in next ST\*, repeat from \* around, SL ST to first DC to join. (30) Round 24-27: CH 2, DC in same ST as CH 2, DC in each ST around, SL ST to first DC to join. (30) Round 28: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST as CH 1, SC in each ST around, SL ST to first SC to join. (30) Fasten off and weave in ends. Create a large pompom using the same yarn, leaving long tails from tying the pompom to use to tie onto the hat. At the bottom of the long 'tail' of the hat, attach pompom securely. You can either weave the ends into the 'tail' or cut them to blend into the pompom.
