Ladybird Beanie 0-3mth

5.5mm hook, DK yarn in red and black, tapestry needle for sewing up NR - Next Row/Round, sc - single crochet (UK double), hdc - half double crochet (UK half treble), dc (double crochet, UK treble), inc - increase ie work 2 stitches in stitch from previous round, repeat instructions in brackets () to end of round. Tip .. work 1t stitches of each round into same stitch as chain, and slip stitch join into the 1't stitch. this will help make seam almost invisible.
Main Beanie
Using black chain 2, work 12 hdc in 2nd chain, slip stitch to join NR - (Inc) in each stitch from previous round, slip to join chain 1 - 24hdc NR - work (hdc, inc) around, slip to join - 36hdc NR - (2hdc, inc) around, slip to join - 48hdc Work 2 rounds of hdc on the 48 stitches, change to red Work 8 more rounds of hdc in red NR- to make shell edging (Slip into next stitch, skip next stitch, work 4dcs into next stitch, skip next stitch) around, slip to join Feelers (make 2) Using black chain 20, work 3sc in 2nd chain and then 3sc in each following chain, fasten off. Spots (make 5/6/7) Using black chain 2, work 10hcd into 2nd chain, slipstitch to fasten off. Picture has 5 spots but you could make as many or as few as you wish
To Finish
Work a line of back or chain stitch down center from in black, attach feelers to top as in picture, and spots as desired on front
Alternations
If beanie is for a boy omit shell edging and work 1 round of single crochet instead. Red section could be made in yellow or less natural alternatives of pink or blue if wished
