The Fingerless Mittse by Deborah Tomasello

Test knit and photo by Tammy Blondon One Size -Woman and Teen Medium Materials: 1 ball each of KnitPicks Palette: Black, Limeade Heather, Cosmopolitan and Canary OR Limeade Heather and Canary per chart five #1 DPNs and five #3 DPNs stitch marker tapestryneedle Gauge: 32 stitches and 30 rounds = 4" using #3 needles. Abbreviations: M1: Knit in front loop and then again in the back loop of stitcl Pocket (MAKE ONE): CO 20 stitches with Black (or Limeade Heather), back and forth in stockinette, about 30 rows or 3.5 inches. End with a purl row. DO NOT Bind off. Steam block. Set aside.
MITTS (MAKE TWO):
Mitt: With #1 DPNs, CO 64 sts (16 sts on 4 DPNs) using Black or Limeade Heather (color A). Knit 2x2 rib for 20 rounds, or to desired cuff length. Add Canary or color of your choice for design, and switch to #3 DPNs. Knit one round in Black or Limeade Heather, decreasing one stitch by knitting the first 2 stitches together. Pattern will be worked on 63 stitches. CHART: With, Black or Limeade Heather K1, place marker between fist two stitches. You are merely placing a marker after the very first stitch. This first stitch will eventually become the thumb. So, you will be working the pattern on 63 sts still. Follow chart for 12 rounds. Continue to follow chart, and inc for thumb as follows: To increase thumb: Round 13: m1, k1, m1 in first st (3 sts now in first st). Continue to k sts as shown around Round 14: knit all sts according to chart Round 15: m1, k3, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 16: knit all sts around according to chart Round 17: m1, k5, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 18: knit all sts around according to chart Round 19: m1, k7, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 20: knit all sts around according to chart Round 21: m1, k9, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 22: knit all sts around according to chart Round 23: m1, k11, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 24: knit all sts around according to chart Round 25: m1, k13, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 26: knit all sts around according to chart Round 27: m1, k15, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 28: knit all sts around according to chart Round 29: m1, k17, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 30: knit all sts around according to chart Round 31: m1, k19, m1, continue to k sts as shown around Round 32: knit all sts around according to chart Round 33 Move 21 thumb sts to fifth DPN (or waste yarn) to be worked as thumb later. M1 st in next st so you will be working the chart's 63 sts. Follow chart around with 63 stitches on needles. Rounds 34 to 51: Knit chart. Pocket: Round 52: Add pocket—-Knit 6 stitches. Move next 20 sts to stitch holder. Retrieve needle with pocket stitches, and with pocket front (stockinette side) facing you, continue to knit chart with these stitches. Knit chart through round 57. Detach design color, and using Black or Limeade Heather, knit 2x2 rib twice as long as you want the cuff length. (You will need to inc I stitch to have a multiple of 4 for ribbing.) Bind off loosely. Fold cuff back over itself. Move 20 stitches from stitch holder to needle. Attach Black or Limeade Heather and knit 2x2 rib for 6 rows. Bind off. Sew rib sides to mitt, creating the pocket top. Thumb:Using #1 DPNs and Black or Limeade Heather, pick up 7 sts from body of mitt, knit 21sts on 5th DPN or waste yarn (split so you're working on 3 needles) for a total of 28 thumb sts. Join. Knit 2x2 rib for 16 rounds or desired length. Bind off. Finishing: Tie and trim all yarn ends. Sew down pocket on inside of mitt. Wear layered over gloves for extra warmth or as is for easy texting! CHART A NOTE: Cover photo shows different design spacing and only 3 design motifs rather than 4. Your choice!
