American Flag 40oz Beer Cozy @Claud07
Materials:
- Size 5 needles Notes: The 40oz bottle I designed this for is 12" in circumference and 11.5" from base to bottle-top. The finished cozy is 12" in circumference and 7.5" tall. - Worsted weight (10ply) yarn scraps in red, white, blue, and black. I recommend making sure all the yarn is the same weight/feel (I initially used a ‘soft' worsted-weight red, and it threw the gauge off entirely). Gauge: 4 stitches/6 rows to an inch Abbreviations: Optional: a 40oz beer Directions:

K = knit P = purl K2tog = knit 2 together P2tog = purl 2 together I knit the flag first, and then added the bottom by picking up stitches from the cast-on rrow. To start the flag, cast on 48 stitches in red. Row 1: K to end Row 2: P to end Row 3: Attach white yarn and knit across. You will either have to carry the red yarn back across with you on this row, or cut off the red yarn here, and reattach for row 6. Row 4: P to end Row 5: K to end - see graph for where to add the lettering in black, starting on this row. Row 6: With red, P to end. Rows 7-41: Refer to the graph for pattern details.
For the base:
Pick up the 48 cast-on stitches. Have the cozy with wrong-side facing you, on the left needle. Row 1: Using black, purl across into each cast-on stitch. Row 2: K to end Row 3: P to end Row 4: (K1, K2tog) to end - 33 stitches Row 5: P to end Row 6: K1, (K2tog) to end - 17 stitches Row 7: P to end Row 8: K1, (K2tog) to end - 9 stitches Row 9: P1, (P2tog) to end - 5 stitches. Break off yarn and run through stitches. Sew seams together, inside out, and weave in any loose yarns. You're done! A note on personalization: Not all letters of the alphabet can be knitted in a 5x3 block. A 5x5 block may be more suitable, especially if you need to include letters like G, M, N, Q, or W.

Feel free to share this pattern and any beer cozies you make, in a non-profit way! I also welcome feedback, as this is my first pattern/write-up.
