Whiskers on Kittens
This hat is named for the "whiskers" created with the bowknots.

Yarn Used:

Caron? Simply Soft? in Pagoda (I used less than a skein) Terms Key: K: Knit. P: Purl. K2tog: Knit two together. Yfwd: Yarn forward. Ybk: Yarn back. Make Bowknot: Slip right needle under 3 strands, K next st, pulling yarn through under the strands St: Stitch. Sl: Slip (As if to purl). PM: Place marker. CO: Cast on.
Instructions:
CO 100 sts on 16 in. US6 circular needles. -Careful not to twist sts, PM at start of round. - \*Ktbl2, P2\*, \*Repeat until end of round, for 1 in. (Appr. 4 rounds) Switch to larger circular needles. Round 1: K2tog, knit for rest of the round. Rounds 2-4, 6, and 8: Knit. Rounds 5.Z, and 9: \*K6, yfwd, S15, ybk\*, \*Repeat until end of round. Round 10: K8, \*Make bowknot [Slip right needle under 3 strands, K next st, pulling yarn through under the strands], knit 10\*, \*Repeat until last bowknot, K2 at end. Rounds 11-14, 16, and 18: Knit Rounds 15, 17, and 19: \*yfwd, Sl5, ybk, K6\*, \*Repeat until end of round. Round 20: K2, \*Make bowknot, K10\*, \*Repeat until last bowknot, K8 at end \*Repeat Rounds 1-20 one (1) more time. Rounds 41 and 42: Knit.
Beginning of decreases:
Round 43: \*K2tog, K4, yfwd, S15, ybk\*, \*Repeat until end of round. Rounds 44, 46, 50, and 52: Knit. Round 45: \*K2tog, K3, yfwd, S15, ybk\*, \* Repeat until end of round. Round 47: \*K2tog, K2, yfwd, S15, ybk\*, \* Repeat until end of round. Round 48: \*K5, make bowknot\*, \*Repeat until last bowknot, K2. (Switch to double pointed needles at this point.) Round 53: \*K2tog, K4\*, \*Repeat until end of round. Round 54: \*K2tog, K3\*, \*Repeat until end of round. Round 56: \*K2tog, K1\*, \*Repeat until end of round. Round 57: \*K2tog\*, \*Repeat until end of round. - Cut yarn 6 in. from final st. With yarn needles, weave yarn through remaining 9 sts and close hole tightly, sewing it shut.
