MIXED BRICKS COWL
Materials: 1 skein Crystal Palace Danube Aran (110 yds, 50g), US 10 - 16" circular needle. Noro Kureyon or Silk Garden is a great substitute. Gauge: 16 sts and 29 rows = 4 inches on US 10 needles in mixed bricks pattern. Finished size: Sample measures 25" around by 6" high. This stitch pattern can be worked in the round like the sample or flat as a scarf. Both versions of the stitch pattern are provided, but directions for the cowl are done using the circular version. The cowl could be worked flat, with the ends sewn together when finished, or just leave open. Makes a great scarf pattern.
Mixed Bricks stitch pattern
Circular version - Cast on a multiple of 8. All slipped stitches are slipped purlwise with the yarn in back. Repeats apply only to directions in parentheses. Rounds 1 and 2: Knit Rounds 3 thru 6: P1, (slip 1, p7) repeat to last 7 stitches, slip 1, p6. Rounds 7 and 8: Knit Rounds 9 and 10: (P3, slip 1) repeat around. Rounds 11 and 12: Knit Rounds 13 thru 16: P5, slip 1, (p7, slip 1) repeat to last 2 stitches, p2. Rounds 17 and 18: Knit Rounds 19 and 20: (P3, slip 1) repeat around. Repeat 20 rounds for pattern, ending after row 8 or 18. Flat version - Cast on a multiple of 8 plus 7 for pattern, plus 2 or 3 border stitches on each end to be worked in stockinette or garter stitch. Pattern is written without the border stitches. Slip all stitches purlwise. Repeats apply only to directions in parentheses. Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl Row 3: (P1, slip 1 wyib, p6) repeat across row until 7 stitches remain, p1, slip 1 wyib, p5. Row 4: K5, slip 1 wyif, k1, (k6, slip 1 wyif, k1) repeat across row. Row 5: Repeat row 3. Row 6: Repeat row 4. Row 7: Knit Row 8: Purl Row 9: (P3, slip 1 wyib) repeat across row until 3 stitches remain, p3. Row 10: (K3, slip 1 wyif) repeat across row until 3 stitches remain, k3. Row 11: Knit Row 12: Purl Row 13: (P5, slip 1 wyib, p2) repeat across row until 7 stitches remain, p5, slip 1 wyib, p1. Row 14: K1, slip 1 wyif, k5, (k2, slip 1 wyif, k5), repeat across row. Cowl
